@QTRBlackGarrett I just recently started the first in a trilogy called The Blade Itself. That is scratching a darker fantasy itch. It has some comedic moments but its brutally descriptive and the world building and characters are really great.
On a lighter not Kings of the Wyld is a good one too

I have yet to see a single instance of him bragging about his LOTR knowledge that is any sort of deep cut. It's a bit and not real.
