@GLandsbergis Yes, however more than anything, his reward diminishes that honor immensely.

Putin’s murderous rampage of three and a half years was rewarded with the greatest honors. Despite receiving everything he could have dreamed of, Putin continues his attacks. This means that what he has already been given — he takes for granted, while what he is only threatened with — he does not take seriously. Monday’s meeting with Zelenskyy provides an opportunity to even the score… if Trump announces real security guarantees for Ukraine it would be a total gamechanger. If.

For the first time since my academic career was effectively destroyed by my wrongful arrest in Iran in 2018, I have published a peer-reviewed journal article. Still not sure whether academia is where I'm meant to be, but I'm pleased to have finally got a tentative first step back on the ladder. My article is titled 'Evaluating Australia’s consular management of cases of wrongful and arbitrary detention' and is published by the Australian Journal of Political Science @AusPSA @tandfonline It's open access, which means anyone can download it. Feedback welcome! #abstract" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

The past three years have offered a variety of insights on modern war, but perhaps none are as important as the political lessons. I propose several insights in my new article for the Lowy Institute. 1/5

Finnish navy is quite unknown even to many Finns. However, for its size, it is very capable of its intended uses. In the near future, however, the capability of Finnish Navy will increase considerably. 🧵

To be clear I have not decided my position while I am doing much needed due diligence on this legislation.  Why? This bill has significant flaws I won’t allow our citizens to be subject to. I have always held that our right to free speech must be respected. The Senate Committee inquiry  has until next week to report their findings and given it  has had 100’s of submissions I believe they deserve to be heard .   So please keep engaging with me on this bill as your views matter, but note using misinformation does nothing to strengthen your argument.

This ‘Comrade’ @SenatorDavidVan is a defector. He’s crossing the floor to support Labor’s MAD censorship bill. Next year, vote him out. Keep up the pressure on the Senators Australia.

@SenatorDavidVan @QBCCIntegrity Senator Van, credit is due for your engaging like this. Thanks. Assessment is a wise prerogative in keeping with a Senator's responsibility to the electorate. True. But the voters' freedom to speak and write is foundational, indivisible, logically prior - and threatened. No?

More than 40 Russian missiles including the hypersonic Kinzhals are in the Ukrainian airspace at the moment. Millions of Ukrainian children and their parents are spending their Sunday morning in bomb shelters. #russiaisaterroriststate

@QBCCIntegrity @debbie03700 FYI it is not even on the Notice Paper to come before the Senate for debate. It probably won’t unless the Government has the numbers which is probably unlikely.

Very sad news - someone I had the pleasure of getting to know in the last two years. A great supporter of Australia’s defence & the associated discussion about its future.
Naval Institute@AusNavInst

It is with great sadness that we advise of the overnight passing of ANI member, LCDR Kit Morgan RAN Rtd after a short illness. Kit served in Vietnam, was as a submariner and worked in the Defence sector upon retirement from the navy. Funeral details to be advised.

Idealists say aggression is fundamentally unacceptable. Realists say Russia is so strong that resistance is futile and acceptance is the only answer. Well, I say we are strong enough to defend our ideals, and fighting back is the most realistic choice. Here's why. 👇🧵1/16

12/ Lesson 2: Indigenous and foreign systems are both needed. Indigenous companies might produce rockets, rocket fuel, drones as well as situational awareness systems that can augment higher-end foreign systems. Indigenous solutions support local industry, build a foundation for ongoing adaption, and guarantee supply of different weapons in wartime.

11/ Lesson 1: An advanced strike capability should embrace a mix of high-end and low-end strike systems. Traditional solutions for strike have featured sophisticated, expensive and low-density systems. These remain essential, given their range, stealthy features, survivability and large warheads. However exquisite strike systems are increasingly expensive and will rarely be available in the quantities required. Nations will need to build and sustain their magazine depth for their missile and drones.

Tanks are essential part of our land defence, and our soldiers both need and want them. If Australia makes them available to Ukraine either directly, or indirectly through the US, we will gladly accept them and put them to good use smh.com.au/politics/feder…
