That SHA is struggling. So let’s ask the simple question: Who is lying to Kenyans? Is parliament also lying? It might not be 6 months, but we all know SHA is struggling. Because on the ground, reality is brutal: SHA often doesn’t work at all. When it works, it pays less than 30%. In many cases, patients are left with 90% of the bill NHIF used to cover far more. In 2023, Kenya was counted among six African countries widely projected to default on their debt obligations. Five of those six defaulted; Kenya did not. As it stands, Kenya's economy is stable and resilient, signaling the effectiveness of Ruto's reforms. Kenya now stands as the 6th largest economy in Africa, with a GDP of approximately $136 billion, and continues to register a steady annual growth rate of about 5%. The shilling, which was once in steep decline, has stabilized and remained steady against the dollar at around 129 for over two years. Kenya's sovereign rating was recently upgraded by Standard & Poor's from B- to B, signifying a clear and credible affirmation of the confidence that global markets have in the direction we have taken. Equally, Kenya's inflation has declined significantly, averaging 4.3%, down from 9.6% three years ago, further reinforcing the stability the government worked hard to achieve. In terms of investment, Kenya's foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in 2025 grew by 15%, exceeding $2 billion for the first time.
