This week I’ve had my planning permission refused, a leak in the upstairs of my house and a puncture that needs a new tyre for a tyre that was already nearly new! Sometimes you have weeks like this, but then a colleague reminded me that we’re only tiny specks in the universe and nothing really matters anyway, which made me feel much better. Keep smiling everyone. 😁

When I was 11 years old I attended a comprehensive high school in Burnley. My English Teacher, Mrs Langstroth, came to school in this brand new Tourmaline Green SL320 - Needless to say I was awestruck! This was at a time when if you had a new SL you were really someone! (£63k list price in 1994 is like £150k now). I ran over and said “Wow Miss that is a nice car”!! It turned out that her husband was a multi millionaire and had bought it for her 40th Birthday present. I used to bump into her from time to her every 5 or so years after I left school, as you do with past teachers, and I always asked about it and told her if she ever sold it I wanted it…. Sadly her husband had died and she was very attached to the car. However last year, she finally agreed to let me buy it from her on the proviso I keep it forever. She even let me keep Her private reg (SL were her initials too)! It feels special as this was probably one of the first ‘nice’ cars I ever came into contact with and it feels such a privilege to look after it on behalf of Mrs L! ♥️

My Audi A5 has dropped like a stone, £48 k brand new, £20k in part exchange 4 years later and only 35,000 mile for the privilege. Cars depreciating is just an unfortunate fact of life. Bloody annoying though 🥴

If it’s just a matter of transport, I think owning an EV now makes more sense than ever. Especially when it costs me approx £1.20 to charge for my week’s driving.

@Andrew20061976 @port27500 @AutoPap I buy outright, usually about 2 years old, keep them 2 years, do 35k in that time and then trade in, & loose around £10,000 in 2 years. So, lease/ buy it’s the same. Buying is not an asset as if I don’t change every 2 years I’d soon loose the value of the car in depreciation

@port27500 @AutoPap Yes youre right, its a lot less hassle but at the end of the day you dont own it and you have to give it back. A lot of companies lease so they can claim it against tax etc. Id much rather have something to show for it at the end of the day.

Worked out this car is saving me approx £350 a month on petrol.

@bolderston_mark I love those Rovers. They looked so fantastic when they first were produced. I’d bike home from school and stop to marvel at one on a driveway every afternoon. Cars were so individual back then. I could tell them by their hub caps. They all look the same now 😀

@sciencegirl Kids these days don’t worry the world is full of quick sand like they used too. I spent a majority of adolescent years fearing quick sand just to be disappointed to find out there’s no quicksand anywhere I’d be lol
