Convicted killer who tried to murder two paedophile inmates begs to die in prison but is STILL ruled eligible for parole at 74 Duncan Heaton, 53, is already serving life with a 21-year minimum for stabbing Keith Opray to death 43 times in his Hull home in 2014. While in maximum-security prisons he carried out two premeditated attacks on convicted sex offenders: stabbing Andong Abong Ashu (a rapist) in the heart with a 10-inch blade at HMP Full Sutton in May 2024, and attacking David Minto (a child killer) with makeshift weapons at HMP Wakefield in October 2024. Heaton pleaded with the judge for a whole-life order so he could die behind bars, telling the court he had “nothing to offer society”. Mr Justice Cotter at Leeds Crown Court called him an “exceptionally dangerous man” but ruled the attacks, while extremely serious, did not justify removing all hope of release. He added a new 13-year minimum term on top of the existing tariff meaning Heaton could apply for parole around age 74.

Police dog handler banned for LIFE from the force after trying to import magic mushrooms PC Ryan Llewellyn, 41, a 17-year veteran police dog handler with South Wales Police, ordered 24.2g of psilocybin (Class A hallucinogenic mushrooms) in 18 capsules online from the Netherlands in early 2024. He claimed he believed the package contained legal mushroom truffles for microdosing to treat his severe mental health issues. Customs intercepted the shipment on 15 February 2024. His own colleagues then staged a controlled delivery to his home in Glynneath, South Wales, and arrested him after he accepted the parcel. Llewellyn was convicted at Newport Crown Court of being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on importing a Class A drug. He received a 12-month community order and 100 hours of unpaid work. A gross misconduct hearing has now imposed a lifetime ban from policing. He resigned shortly before the hearing; the Chief Constable said he would have been sacked. Thoughts on this?

Love-crazed peacocks invade Italian seaside village causing traffic chaos and car damage Around 120 wild peacocks have swarmed Punta Marina on Italy’s Adriatic coast during mating season, climbing onto parked cars, scratching paintwork with their claws and covering streets in droppings. The birds whose population has exploded over the past 30 years with no natural predators —are also nesting in gardens and blasting out loud nighttime calls that keep residents awake. Locals are split: some call them “magical” and want them left alone, while others fear the chaos will drive away summer tourists to the Blue Flag beach. Ravenna city council previously tried relocating them in 2022 but faced backlash from animal rights groups; it’s now running a “how to coexist” campaign and receiving adoption offers from across Italy. The peacocks originally lived in the pine forest behind the village but now treat the seaside streets as their personal love playground.

Jamie East reveals wild moment Robbie Williams recorded his biggest hit ‘Angels’ Podcast host Jamie East was in the same Fulham studio in 1996 when Robbie Williams laid down the vocals for ‘Angels’ and ‘Let Me Entertain You’ during sessions for his debut album Life Thru a Lens. East told his Tales From the Celebrity Trenches podcast that Robbie’s then-girlfriend Anna Friel popped in, said she had to go to work, and left the building. “The moment she walked out he got the beers in,” East recalled. “The session derailed very quickly” as mates, beer and women piled in. East’s band was recording next door at Maison Rouge and witnessed the chaos first-hand. ‘Angels’ went on to become Robbie’s signature ballad and one of the biggest-selling singles of the decade.

Rylan Clark praised after calling out Israel boycott on Eurovision as terrorist supporters are ejected from venue BBC co-commentator Rylan Clark opened the semi-final broadcast by directly telling viewers: “This year Eurovision has faced one of its most challenging years, five countries have withdrawn following the continued participation of Israel.” During Israel’s Noam Bettan performance of “Michelle”, sections of the Vienna crowd booed loudly and shouted anti-Israel slogans. Austrian broadcaster ORF confirmed several pro-terrorist activists were removed by security for disruptive behaviour, including one shouting near a live microphone. Despite the hostility, Bettan still qualified for Saturday’s grand final. Rylan was widely praised on X for openly acknowledging the political controversy instead of ignoring it.

Drunk mum, 33, attacks TUI cabin crew in 90-minute brandy rampage on flight to Cuba Zoe Alexander became aggressive six hours into the Manchester-to-Cuba flight after downing brandy and demanding more “to knock herself out”. She verbally abused passengers and crew, called a female attendant a “fing bh c***”, kicked out at staff, punched a male crew member in the stomach, pulled off his tie, bit crew and passengers, and tried to light a cigarette. During the chaos she told a passenger trying to help: “I hope bad things happen to your children. I hope they die.” Crew used a restraint kit to control her until landing; Cuban police escorted her off the plane. At Manchester Crown Court she pleaded guilty to being drunk on an aircraft and three counts of assault by beating. She was given a five-month sentence suspended for 18 months, banned from leaving the UK for 12 months, plus alcohol monitoring, rehab and £75 compensation to each victim.

Palestine Action protesters could be sentenced as TERRORISTS after violent raid on Israeli defence firm Four activists Charlotte Head, 30, Samuel Corner, Leona Kamio and Fatema Rajwani, 21 were convicted of criminal damage at Woolwich Crown Court last week over the 6 August 2024 raid on Elbit Systems UK near Bristol. The group rammed the factory gates with an old prison van, then used crowbars and sledgehammers to smash computers, drones and equipment while spraying red paint across the site in red boiler suits. Samuel Corner was also found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm after fracturing a police sergeant’s spine during the clash. Judge Mr Justice Johnson ruled the offences have a “terrorist connection” because of their link to Palestine Action’s campaign against the Israeli-owned arms firm. Sentencing is set for 12 June 2026 and could carry much harsher terrorism-style penalties.

Rosie Jones sitcom Pushers axed by Channel 4 after just one series The Channel 4 comedy, written by and starring Rosie Jones, has been cancelled following its six-episode run that launched in June 2025. The show followed a disabled woman who turns to drug dealing, with a cast that featured a majority of disabled actors. It began as a 2022 Comedy Blaps pilot before becoming a full series. A Channel 4 spokesperson said: “We’re so proud of Pushers and would like to thank Rosie Jones, Peter Fellows, 2LE Media and Merman Television for their brilliant and dedicated work on the series. We look forward to working together on future projects.” The decision was made during Channel 4’s regular programming review to ensure the right range of content for viewers. Is anyone surprised/relieved?
