Today on #juneteenth2022 , we celebrate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States in 1865, Black history and culture, and freedom. In observance, let’s take this opportunity to join together, reflect, and learn from one another.

I’m both proud and humbled to be endorsed by @repmarkpocan. He’s a strong advocate for justice at the state and national levels, so having his support is especially meaningful to me.

In 1967, the United States Supreme Court in the case of Loving v. Virginia ruled that Virginia’s anti-miscegenation statute, the Racial Integrity Act of 1924, was unconstitutional. This ruling ended all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States.

I celebrate pride month because diversity makes us stronger. Because everyone deserves to be treated with dignity. Because we are all human. Because love is love. Because using preferred names and pronouns doesn't cost anything and actually saves lives. Just because.

Today we honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifce for everyone in this country. Thank you.
