Amid the swift exchanges and unwavering quests defining our modern world, the analogy of humans as 'Vanjara Mitra,' trader-friends navigating the quarters of the night, resonates with a comforting profundity. As we journey through the complexities of today's existence, let's gather in a moment of shared reflection, gently unraveling the threads of this discourse, seeking relevance in our daily transactions, relationships, and the ever-evolving landscape of interconnected lives. #Wisdom #Inspiration #GuruNanakDevJi

This Sabad is by Sheikh Farid (1173-1265) and is set in Rag Asa, a devotional musical framework. The essence of the composition lies in its contemplation of contrasting states. The Sabad delves into a juxtaposition between individuals immersed in Love and those untouched by it. Similarly, it parallels those saturated with Love and those lacking in it. The Guru Granth Sahib Project (@tggsproject) is pleased to announce the annotation of four Sabads by Guru Arjan Sahib under Rag Maru, a musical mode that evokes the feeling of enthusiasm and zeal. Of these four Sabads, two are recorded under the title Anjuli and two under Anjulia. The word ‘anjuli’ refers to the gesture of cupping or folding the hands. It can signify prayer, supplication, seeking blessings, acceptance of the Divine will, or a gesture of salutation. In the Hindu tradition, a palmful of water offered to ancestors or deities is also called anjuli. The word ‘anjulia’ is the plural form of ‘anjuli.’ Explore Anjuli: bit.ly/anjuli-x Explore Anulia: bit.ly/anjulia-x #Sikh #GuruGranthSahib #GuruGranthSahibJi #Sikhism #Sikhi #Shabad #Sabad #Panjab #India #Punjab #Wisdom #TGGSPNewRelease #TheGuruGranthSahibProject

@tggsproject #WordoftheDay ਭੁੰਚੈ Bhuncai | Popular Spelling bhuncai | Transcription It literally means 'eats' or 'consumes.' Interpretively, it conveys the sense of savoring or relishing. Today in #Sikh History: Baba Gurdit Singh signed charter papers for the SS Komagata Maru, renamed “Guru Nanak Jahaz” by the Sikhs. The ship was scheduled to sail for British Columbia despite racist laws such as the Continuous Journey Regulation aimed at restricting the entry of South Asians into Canada. Upon arrival, Canadian officials classified the passengers as illegal arrivals, leading to the ship and its passengers being denied entry and detained for two months in Vancouver Harbour. Subsequently, the ship was compelled to depart for Calcutta. Upon its return, records showed that 62 passengers traveled to Panjab: 20 perished, 1 drowned, 9 were hospitalized, 202 were incarcerated, and 29 remained unaccounted for. #TodayInHistory #India #Punjab #Panjab #SikhHistory

In the thirteenth salok (couplet), Guru Nanak Sahib uses the letter ਞ (‘ñaññā’) to emphasize the uniqueness of IkOankar (the Divine), who pervades all places and minds. The Guru reveals that through grace, we begin to see that there is no one else but the Divine, whose presence fills all. The word ‘nadari’ refers to seeing with grace, and it is through this grace that we recognize the unity of existence. True learning is not intellectual but experiential, rooted in the wisdom and grace of the Divine. Will we cultivate a relationship with this wisdom and experience the all-encompassing presence of the Divine? Though limited in numbers and resources, the Babbar Akalis launched a series of bold and targeted actions and assassinations. Their movement demonstrated that not all Sikhs agreed with the policy of non-violent protests that were being organized by the Shiromani Akali Dal, and that there was a desire in the Panth for a more radical response to British rule. Despite the brevity of the Babbar Akali movement, it has remained a potent source of inspiration for successive Sikh generations, illustrating that the indomitable warrior spirit of the Sikhs endured even during the challenging era of British rule. #Panjab #SikhHistory

Today in #Sikh History: In the aftermath of the Nankana Sahib massacre, a turning point emerged within the Sikh struggle against British rule. On this day, Jathedar Kishan Singh Gargaj and Master Mota Singh—both Akali figures—secretly met at the Sikh Educational Conference in Hoshiarpur. After the brutality at Nankana Sahib, they concluded that nonviolent resistance alone was no longer sufficient to confront colonial oppression, and resolved to fight against the British. They unified their respective jathas (groups) under the leadership of Kishan Singh Gargaj, forming what became known as the Babbar Akali Dal. The Babbars were committed to confronting the British and those Panjabis collaborating with the colonial government. #TodayInHistory #India #Punjab

This composition by Bhagat Namdev is in Rag Asa, a musical mode used to evoke a mood of hope, expectation, inspiration, and courage. In Bhagat Namdev’s earlier worship mode, he was a follower of the “Bithal” deity. At some point in his journey, he transcended the deity and became a lover of the Divine – the All-pervasive. ‍‍ Reflection: Caste, background, and worship mode are immaterial when one develops a relationship. The early stages of a relationship create tension; as one gets deeper into the relationship, the realization dawns that equality is not the issue. The centrality transcends all definitions and standards seemingly religious men have created. Standards need to be broken to transcend the relationship with the Divine. Delve into the Sabad (Shabad) of Bhagat Namdev in Rag (raag) Asa from the Guru Granth Sahib, the sacred scripture of the Sikhs. Read the translation done by Harinder Singh (@1Force) and Inni Kaur (@InniKaur).
