Reminds me of Chatthian Di Var, which describes the assault of Mahan Singh ( Ranjit Singh’s father) on the Chatthas: bahar guru chitarde te andar bangaa (the Sikhs recite from Guru Granth Sahib outside, while Muslims give their call to prayer inside). Par khoon na kariye kisse da, bhath jang dian tangaa!

English

They cried out ‘Allah-u-Akbar’ (Allah is the Greatest) and the Singh shouted ‘Sat-Kartar’ (Truth Eternal is the Creator), O friends.
O Qadir Yar, now is the time to pay up [with life’s breath] since there is no moment left to borrow, O friends.
The elephant and the Singh, both intoxicated, made a miserable state of the Ghazis, O friends.
O Qadir Yar, spending all their energy the Afghans became exhausted; it became impossible to climb the elephant, O friends.

REPOST from @wkamaubell: "One of my favorite episodes of United Shades of America was the one where I talked to Sikhs. One of the most powerful moments was this conversation with Dr. Harpreet Singh of the Sikh Coalition, talking about the Sikh community’s response to 9/11."

@bhujangisingh Very interesting source. I have been looking for the original Persian text but have been unsuccessful.

Was going through some books for an article when I found the work of Anand Roop, in a book that I haven't read cover to cover yet but have used bits and pieces many times. LOL. It's written around the same time of Qazi Nur Momammad. Anand Roop had been with the Marathas 1/2

Lone Warrior@bhujangisingh
Here is what Qazi Nur Mohammad has to say about the bravery of Sikhs, who witnessed the Sikhs in the battleground in 1764-65. Even when the forces of those times called the Sikhs sug (dog), he couldn't overlook the fierceness and quickness of Sikhs in the battlefield. 1/n

AI generated scene from a #Sikh Misl Camp (1733 CE) that I created today using Google #Veo3 model. I am in the process of creating a 5-minute film on the deliberations of the Sarbat Khalsa on the Mughal offer of Nawabship based on Bhangu's Panth Parkash. But Veo3 cannot get the turban styles correct for Sikh men or women, even after uploading reference photos. I wanted rounded turbans to make the scenes historically accurate but I have had no luck, wasting hundreds of credits. For women, it creates the most bizarre turbans, forcing me to remove women horse riders from the scene completely. Despite an 8-second clip limitation, these are exciting times for content creation! @GoogleVeo3

@jindisinghka @jindisinghka Can you share with me the two Bhat Vahi texts?

‘a single paragraph’ as @audreytruschke mentions of her re-telling of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s execution and methodology surrounding this speaks to a larger problem in how Sikh history is treated by those whose expertise is elsewhere.

Congratulations to @dilzafersingh for making history last night by playing the #Tabla for the first time ever at the @BostonSymphony Hall as a Grand Prize Winner of @TheBostonPops and @Fidelity Young Artists Competition. (Accompanied by Alex Newman on the clarinet.) @GrotonSchool

@kalgidhardifauj The Param Marag Granth (aka Prem Sumarag), c. 1700, written at Anandpur, under the chapter on marriage states, "Let the bride and bridegroom then receive the initiation by the double-edged sword (pahul khande di)." Verse 28. Padam's version of Chaupa Singh agrees with the above.

@TPaganism86985 @XJatlandX @MKumar89883791 When quoting always provide section and page references. I don't see any glorification of or pride in "Jatt" identity. The Khalsa identity is not only embraced but glorified. This vulgar embrace of Jatt identity that you see in Punjabi songs and on Twitter is a modern phenomenon.
English

@hsingh @XJatlandX @MKumar89883791 Tbf it says, "don't ask about caste" i.e. dont discriminate but tribal identity isnt something that can be erased, read Panth Parkash all were of gotra and tribal identity but they viewed it as secondary to Khalsa.

@hukamdeyakke There are many such historical events awaiting to be turned into action-packed thrillers. What's the source?

@SuspendedSingh Fascinating. Please provide the biographical reference to these texts.

@AliKapadia I really enjoyed your piece. What a bold move to do the latest rendition of the movie in Panjabi, while featuring some of Pakistan's best talent! Hopefully, this success will inspire others to do the same.

@Kharagket_ Again, you are correct that the Gurgaddi belongs to the joint entity of Guru Granth and Guru Panth. The Dasam Granth was not given the Gurgaddi—let’s agree to this part first. Unless you do, there can be no meaningful discussion. (1/3)
English

Gurgaddi was equally invested between Guru Granth and Guru Panth. In fact the earliest references mention only Guru Panth. The Guru Panth takes inspiration from Sri Dasam Granth Sahib. If you only believe in Guru Granth Sahib then stop reciting the Ardas and greeting with Gurfateh because those are not part of Guru Granth Sahib.
English

If you come yourself in village Kangar, we can meet each other.
Do not bring in your mind the danger of coming there.
Because the Brar (Jatt) community acts according to my orders. [59]
So what, if you have killed my four sons? The hooded cobra (the Guru Khalsa) still sits coiled up (ready to pounce). [78]
