Today’s stats underline why the Conservative Party deserved to lose the election. Despite repeated promises to reduce immigration - promises which led to Brexit and election victories - it was at or near record levels even in their final year in ofice. Legal immigration ROSE compared to the Blair years and ministers didn’t need anything like the Rwanda scheme which they publicly obsessed about to have changed that. It was within their existing powers. Until the party faces up to this monumental deceit it won’t deserve anyone’s trust again.
