@Idorunning Two people have ran faster than that in the last 5 years. Mo and myself. Mo: 2:05.11 (2018) myself: 2:08.14 (2019). Dewi Griffith was 9 secs of that in 2017 and Johnny Mellor was 23sec off in 2020. I would say it is pretty achievable for a Brit.

Due to this I have had more frustration and had to withdraw from the NYC marathon. I’m gutted as I hate pulling out of any race, never mind one as big as the NYC marathon. But as I have had to take at least 8 weeks off from running I wouldn’t have been able to compete at my best.

Its been a tough and very frustrating year for me. I have been suffering with an ankle issue on and off since November of last year. Constantly cutting recovery time to the bare minimum. Unfortunately this issue flared up during the Olympics and caused me to drop out. 1/3

@TimHutchings1 Can we add some facts to the conversation ? The top5 UK HM times were made in the super shoes (2017-20) But of the next 69 all but 5 were run before super shoes existed. In 10k road none of the top 10 & only 5 of next 47 could have been so aided. Why ?

You misunderstand; don’t want the shoes banned. Rather, to establish an-up-to-date Records & Rankings environment for a new era. Why wld anyone benefitting from this tech, push back against that, when a re-set would regain respect for athletes from those with “record fatigue”?

@callhawk @Thommo10k I apologize. We were misled into thinking that the pacers were responsible for 2:11:30 & 2:29:30 pace to enable as many as possible to be under the Olympic standards.

I am not a huge fan of pacers but pacers that are running faster than the designated pace are NOT doing their job. The smartest move today at the British Marathon Trials Mens Race was to ignore the pacers. Congrats @Thommo10k brilliant race.

No-one’s questioning your credentials Callum. You earned your stripes, including comparisons with the past, long ago. And 60:00 in “old” shoes, deserves the greatest respect; it certainly gets mine!

@TimHutchings1 Top 4 brits of all time over half marathon the same as the top 4 in 2020. Fairly sure all in “magic” shoes, although not all Nike. Tommo just one spot different in 5th 2020 and 6th all time too. Quality athletes obviously but does suggest an advantage.

It’s going to take me a while to fully accept this is the right way for footwear to go, for records & personal bests to be achieved. I strongly believe there should be a BEFORE & an AFTER with this generation of shoes, something acknowledged by both record books & authorities.

The rules I have to follow are that you set an hour slot each day that you have to be where you say you are and an overnight accommodation. If the come outside the hour slot they do not call me and it doesn’t count as a missed test or a filing violation.

Huge news here. 100m world champion -- and Olympic favorite -- Christian Coleman is facing a ban of up to two years because of a 3rd missed drug test in 12 months. He says he was 5 mins away Xmas shopping and the tester never called him -- as they had on every previous occasion.
