@FranmilsEyebrow There’s no reason to have not signed Hays. He fit what we needed, he was affordable, he’s not gonna block anyone, and he’s a significant upgrade from Rodriguez. They need a consultant to tell them their guys aren’t all as special as they seem to think and that they need help.

Jose Ramirez’s extension restructure has made it so his cash payroll hit is even softer than what it was from his original deal in 2022. I understand the deferred money isn’t really “saved” money, but the team SHOULD have more flexibility to wiggle out of 29/30 in cash payroll.

It’s not even that I think Chas is some game changer, but if we’re not doing anything substantial and you need dart throws in CF with more Fairchild-adjacent moves to see what sticks, Chas made too much sense.
