My book is out today. Feels very dystopian, in a time where language is manipulated, malleable, and without teeth except to serve the destructive impulse. But still, long live the word and the people who keep word sacred.

Haroun is my father, and he hasn't received his medications for 23 days. He has been battling cancer for five years, doing his best to resist, but this Israeli aggression has taken a toll on his mental well-being and made it impossible for him to receive treatment.

My uncle Haroun is a cancer patient. His cancer medications have finished. He was also supposed to leave to Ramallah on 9th October for his chemotherapy. There are more than 16.000 cancer patients in Gaza without access to basic healthcare and medication.

My father's friend just called him for advice on his 80-year old sister who has invasive cervical cancer that my father says is most likely linked to HPV. This is a virus that can lay dormant for a very long time, yet no throat and no consensus on anal screenings for it yet.

Having an oncologist in the family who has talked about the clinical link between HPV and head/neck/anal cancers for YEARS, the organized evasion by the med community (oh, it'll clear itself!) about long-term impacts, coupled with the lack of available screenings is shocking.
