@Helone_613 @rivaledheatery I believe the commenting feature can be disabled if the writer chooses. Even though AO3 is a community celebrating fandoms, interactions between creators can occasionally feel transactional, even when they're not. I only comment on work I truly like... same goes for kudos.

@Helone_613 @rivaledheatery Same… and I write fic myself. But I feel like I can’t comment on every chapter update of another author’s work… bc they might start getting weirded out … or they might feel like I am only doing it bc i want them to read my work. It’s tricky.

@rivaledheatery @SlapstickNotes Now imagine my feelings when I discover a new author who has a lot of awesome works I binge read, like and want to comment, but then i remember that post and begin worrying if I give too many kudos at once, let alone commenting 😅

@SlapstickNotes The point of the post is to literally just say that a lot of hidden gems are in rare pair fics. It’s not about ‘read this over that’ just me stating how I’ve come across some absolute bangers.

My fanfic take is that some of the best fics you’ll ever read will come from Rare Pair authors but they never get the attention they deserve because they’re not writing popular pairings so most people just ignore them. But they really are missing out on some absolute bangers.

Writing fics that no one will see is so freeing 10/10 recommend

@shanekotenok Post-canon, canon-compliant is my favorite tag pairing. Of course much of fic rewrites canon… but I’m interested in what happens afterwards when it remains unchanged.

Rewatched Soulmate.I love it again. I don't understand why people says it's so sad... Yes, it's not a romcom but Hearbeat ending was more devastating in my opinion. At least in here everyone looks happy & together. Yes,they don't have easy lives but showed that heart warming way.

@ilya_scarlet @ilyalovshane Commenting on prose quality is more of a gray area. Some fic writers are just beginning their writing journey. I wouldn’t want to discourage someone who may be discovering a love for writing through fic.

@ilya_scarlet @ilyalovshane Questioning/criticizing characterizations or interpretations one disagrees with is generally considered negative criticism. Basically, commentary that has nothing to do with grammar/spelling or formatting.

do yall not give kudos to every fic you read? bc i be pushing that button every single time, those authors put their time and effort to write those fics, i feel like the least i can do is give a kudo

@ilya_scarlet @ilyalovshane Giving negative feedback is definitely frowned upon. My response was more about giving insincere praise for a story one actually didn't care for because one feels they have to be supportive/polite to authors.

@SlapstickNotes @ilyalovshane I feel like giving feedback is quite frowned upon nowadays? People said that since author giving fics for free, you cannot criticize it at all, unless the author specifically said they welcome feedback.

@godspeedend @atasteofredwine @chloeolivia__ I suppose I just noticed that “grounding” appears in almost every piece of prose someone told me AI wrote. To the point that I no longer use it in my own writing.

@atasteofredwine @SlapstickNotes @chloeolivia__ I said this in my reply, but AI has learned from us fic writers and authors. People claiming certain words indicate AI usage is absolutely nuts when it’s just recycling what others have written!

so, seeing as a lot of people have admitted that they struggle to identify ai fics. here’s a little thread with some tips 🧵:

@onelastunicorn I couldn’t do that even if I wanted to. People would know it was mine. It doesn’t work in small fandoms.

@ileikbees It’s understood, but people who like canon aren’t obligated to engage with fanon content/interpretations…. and vice versa.

unfortunately something this fandom doesnt understand is that all of us have a fanon version of the show & characters in our heads based on our own interpretations and experiences - if we were all aligning w canon none of us wld be here bc realistically the show did not afford +
