@WeatherNowKY Long-range forecasting isn’t a bad thing (if done responsibly), but the biggest gripe I would have is using the SPC 15/30% colors 2 weeks out, especially when in this case, there’s a lot of model/run variability right now.

As we all know, the tornado threat did not verify, although there were likely a few QLCS tornadoes that occurred. But the wind risk wasn't that bad. Many wind damage (and a fair number of actual SVR wind) reports did occur. At the very least, a 45% would've verified.

and legitimately being upset that the risk didn't pan out. I've seen very few legitimate cases of people disappointed in the busted tornado threat; then again, I'm not really all that connected to the 'weenie' side of the community, so I'm not really sure, but still.🤷‍♂️

Never thought yesterday's "bust" would turn out to be so controversial and spark a debate and narrative around "people being upset that the risk didn't verify". There's a clear difference between figuring out what went wrong, and working to be more accurate in the future...

That’s why discussion and analysis ourselves can help bring more clarity to an event/risk and help people understand what *might* be to come. Part of the problem (mostly unrelated) is too many people using definitive, rather than probabilistic language in communication.

This is a change that probably should’ve happened a long time ago. The SPC obviously isn’t perfect (today made that clear), but they’re the source of official outlooks, and our goal should be to unify communication, even if we’re not totally on par with the SPC’s thinking.

In my roughly 6 years of severe weather forecasting experience, this has been one of the wildest turnarounds I've seen amongst the entire CAM suite. Obviously, this setup never really looked grand, and the higher-end threat was always conditional, but this still amazes me.

Well, turns out the rapid downtrend for today was correct. Not too surprised, but it's a very good lesson, while not to take CAMs too literally, when they all agree on a trend like this, it's not just a rogue run/model like many claimed last night.

Not buying that... yet
