TONIGHT: - This is why we haven't posted about this one much. The threat is being removed from Kentucky a little at each update. A couple of thunderstorms possible for Extreme East Kentucky late tonight, but nothing concerning looks likely. Carry on with your Friday!- George

⚠️ Sunday, March 22 ⚠️ - The Northern half of Kentucky looks especially interesting on the 22nd. There will definitely be some ingredients for storms to play with. The only issue is, no one knows if it will actually storm. You see, there's a building High pressure. That's why it's getting so warm. That High pressure is also sending incredibly warm air above our heads. When that occurs, a storm can't really root and become strong/big. It just fizzles out. - So Sunday, definitely has severe potential, but that's *IF* it storms... - George 👀

FRIDAY: West Kentucky may go over 80 degrees tomorrow! A couple of thunderstorms are possible in FAR Eastern Kentucky on Friday, but that's a big emphasis on "possible". Mostly clear for everyone else! - Our Premier partner, Wright Implement makes posts like these possible. It's springtime, you need equipment that you can depend on like you depend on us. Shop that equipment at any of Wright's 15 locations across Kentucky! - George

Heads up East Kentucky! ⚠️ - There is a Marginal (1/5) risk for severe weather issued for tomorrow (Friday). This, in my opinion, is a very conditional threat. What do I mean by that? - A conditional threat means storms may or may not form, BUT; if they do, they could have a damaging wind risk. There is also a 2% tornado risk for FAR EKY, but I have to be honest, I don't really see that. I'll continue to watch the data and give you updates but for now, I wouldn't sweat this one too much. Just lookout for updates and I'll let you know if that changes. - If storms form, it would be in the evening near sunset and just after.

It's a lot and I'll admit, it confused me at first. But I really like that it's broken down into significance categories. Think like this, before: a 2% chance of a spin up was also a 2% chance of a violent tornado. Now we have "cig" levels to define that. It IMPROVES accuracy and communication. People don't want to spend the extra few minutes to actually learn it and then adapt.

@WeatherNowKY @ChrisAllenSkywx I can see where you are coming from but I don’t fully agree. Even if it’s designed for meteorologists to interpret and relay to the public they still interact with the outlooks so how it’s interpreted by the general public matters too. We don’t need to be confusing them.

This is interesting. - SPC maps weren't originally made to please the general public. If they were, why use such huge science words in their breakdowns? - Interpreting maps and the language is where local forecasters come in. Then they soften that transition and convey to the public, in a more human tone, what to expect. - If you're so "tired" just stop. The world is going to continue to evolve. The weather communication is going to continue to get more specific and improved. - AI isn't going anywhere. - I'm growing so tired of the experienced people in the industry, complaining about every improvement or change. It's like when they came out with computers, everyone complained at first, but eventually adapted. - Adapt or get out, that's the way the world and evolution has always worked. - Complaining at every turn only isolates you from your audience, more & more. - Thank you for attending my ted talk.

On Broadcast, we used the Grayson County Emergency Management Camera via @hazcams to identify a slight lowering on an embedded pocket of rotation. This ended up being a long tracked tornado throughout Grayson, Meade and Hardin Counties. This image shows the leading edge of a QLCS moving through the area. The bright, washed-out region on the right is the core of heavy rain, while the sloped layer above is the main shelf cloud. Beneath that, the more ragged clouds are inflow being pulled into the storm. On the left side of the frame, just behind the heavy rain, there’s a subtle darker notch and lowering. That’s the most important feature in this image — it likely marks the inflow and circulation interface along the line, where the tornado would have been embedded. There’s no clearly visible funnel here, but that’s typical in this setup. The tornado would have been rain-wrapped and hidden within that area, making it extremely difficult to see even as it was occurring. - Major shoutout to GCEM for making the investment in their county, but getting this weather camera. This confirmed nearly instantly instead of guessing on radar, that something dangerous was developing. Hopefully more counties lead in this new era of weather safety, with you. - George

😳: For those curious, here's the updated report of Storm Damages. Kentucky did have a long track tornado that began in Grayson, went through Meade, and finished in Hardin. It was 43 miles in length. Pretty unheard of for a "QLCS". There are still more surveys ongoing!!!- George

@StarInBoxWx I agree, long range forecasting is fine. It can also be done in 2-3 days. The psychological aspect is real. Let people breathe.

@WeatherNowKY Long-range forecasting isn’t a bad thing (if done responsibly), but the biggest gripe I would have is using the SPC 15/30% colors 2 weeks out, especially when in this case, there’s a lot of model/run variability right now.

I can appreciate that. But this isn't a trend. The SPC, as you know, is targeted to mainly inform local weather personnel and local NWS offices. Then that communication is relayed to the public. The new system allows you to understand strength perspective because as you know, not each storm is a one size fits all. It's a genuine positive change.

Appreciate the perspective. But in this business, experience isn’t about resisting change—it’s about making sure the changes actually serve the public. Not everything labeled ‘improvement’ translates into clearer communication when it matters most. My responsibility isn’t to follow every trend… it’s to make sure people understand their risk when it counts.

A warm front will work from West to East tomorrow. So if you're in Western Kentucky, it will likely be much WARMER than shown below. CENTRAL KENTUCKY: We trusted 3D Heating & Cooling for our own full HVAC replacement, and the Daikin system they installed has handled this Kentucky cold season flawlessly. If your furnace isn’t keeping up, call 3D Heating & Cooling at (502) 698-9499 and tell them WNK sent you.

@BryceJonesWx @WDRBNews In hindsight, I agree with that. I still haven't gone back and looked at archive data for that. When it got so close, I obviously left the desk for about 10 minutes and then came back so I missed those finer details. I noticed it was turning left quite a bit.

@WeatherNowKY @WDRBNews By then, that rear flank downdraft pushed that wind outward. I wouldn't be shocked at all if the path is trimmed dramatically back and/or split into two tors

The NWS has upgraded the winds for the EF-1 that impacted Grayson, Hardin, and Meade Counties to 110mph with a max width of 100 yards. Still determining the exact length it was on the ground. @WDRBNews

😭🌪️: Today, we say goodbye to another Gazebo. This video is from my home in Radcliff, Kentucky as a Destructive thunderstorm with Hurricane force (78mph) winds came through. An EF1 tornado was confirmed within 5 miles North West of this video in Hardin County, Kentucky, Sunday. Excuse my nervousness, I thought that branch was coming for me!- George
