The claim that's supported by contemporary sources is that jewish traders had a lucrative competitive advantage over their gentile competition in the Triangle Trade throughout much of the 18th century. & a 𝙡𝙤𝙩 of African slaves came to North America at that time. Far more than were transported later. Hence it's (increasingly) believed that jews were substantial purveyors of African slaves in the New World. Incidently the slave trade to South & Central America 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 in the 19th century, until the British basically blew it all out of the water. & to tie off one last nerdy little thing: the slave trade was a formative factor in the American Civil War, but not at all vice versa.
