@CatHobbs Agreed. But the ScotGov pocket money only goes so far. If only there was some way that Scotland could be 100% in charge of it's own economy.....

Huge missed opportunity that these new trains will not be owned by ScotRail They are being leased by Beacon Rail which is owned by JP Morgan Asset Management Rolling stock is the most profitable bit of the railway Scotland should own its own trains! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@AndyRoden1 @mitchell_hurd There's a huge political element too Andy. And it happens every time SR say anything on X. As it's public (funded by ScotGov), and SOME people just don't want ScotGov to exist, every tweet annoys the usual suspects. 222s are also a big improvement accessibility-wise 👍

@mitchell_hurd I think there was an element of 'poor us not getting new trains'. Ignoring that ScotRail is, in fact, procuring new EMUs and BEMUs, and isn't doing so for long-distance because of its electrification plans which could change requirements radically. Also, 222s are available now.

Ooh, blocked by someone for calling it as it is on the '222s'. Some people are so touchy when presented with facts, aren't they?

@Christiane @AndyRoden1 @ScotRail That aside (are you listening @ScotRail?), this is a real improvment Christiane. Ramp incline is STEEP on the existing HSTs - plus no First Class wheelchair spaces (a big issue when the HSTs were first announced). New trains do have wheelchair spaces in both classes 👍

The Class 222s are good trains with plenty of life left in them. They're having a major refurb for use with @ScotRail. No, they're not new - but the HSTs are excruciatingly expensive to run, and with major electrification planned, why order new multi-mode trains...

@LordOrk @ScotRail Great to hear. The blanket ban was the wrong way to go. Not sure of boarding angle on the 222s, it won't be level, but I doubt it will be anywhere near as steep as now. So, not perfect - but a step in the right direction.

@StreetLibraryUK @ScotRail I know. The ScotRail voyager replacement will have a wheelchair space in first and two in standard. And yes, I got ScotRail to lift their discriminatory blanket scooter ban, but need to collaborate further on expanding policy spec to allow more scooter users to travel.

Morning 👋! We have some exciting news for customers. We’re replacing our intercity high speed trains (HSTs) with more modern Class 222s. 🚆 The triple 2s are getting a complete makeover with a new interior, better Wi-Fi, improved accessibility, cycle spaces, and electronic seat reservations.✨ You’ll be able to board the first of these trains in late 2027. Check out this link for more details: scotrail.co.uk/about-scotrail…

@andwyrdan @ScotRail Very true 👍 The sad reality is that that choice was made. Fortunately, a different choice has been made for the future.

@LairdSummerisle @ScotRail "Everyone loves the HST". No they don't (no wheelchairs in First, and a seriousluy steep incline to board/alight using ramp).

@ScotRail Everyone loves the HST. Everyone hates the 222. More modern rarely means better.

@andwyrdan @ScotRail As long as they don't want to travel in First that is. No wheelchair spaces in First Class on the HSTs either. But in both classes on the 222s.

@andwyrdan @ScotRail "In every way". Except for wheelchair users using the boarding ramps of course. Boarding the existing HSTs is rather steep.

@ScotRail That’s a definite downgrade. They may be newer but they’re inferior to HST in every way that matters to the passenger.

@KarenLNHollis @walkers_crisps 🤢 That hasn't been in your mouth yet? Double whammy. That "lump" looks quite heavy - so the number of crisps that you could actually eat, will have been reduced to make the correct weight.

If there is one critique from beta readers that I will never accept, it is "readers may not know this word". If the reader is unfamiliar with a word, she may consult the magic rectangle in her pocket. I refuse to assume her to be either ignorant or unwilling to learn.

I know these lists are usually a bit or click bait but this one is particularly poor. I mean come on, not a single Lisbon Lion & Alan Hutton gets in, no Jim Baxter or Jimmy McGrory or either. I think somebody about 15 made this one up.
