most* founders get charged FX fees twice: on income and expenses i've built a calculator that shows you how much you could save ungated and free coming soon *if your company, clients, and suppliers are all in the same country, you probably don't need this

I just paid Claude/Anthropic $200/yr cause Chat has been ~so~ beneficial It walked idiot me, step-by-step, how to save $1k+/yr on electricity bills by leveraging my Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultra + GA Power Overnight Advantage power plan (I don't even use Cowork, Code, etc *yet) 🙏

I can't focus 100% on a single startup. It's been a few months working on TrustMRR, and I feel a strong urge to try other things. 0 → 1 makes me more excited than 1 → 100
Yasser@yasser_elsaid_

@marclou Do you think you will continue working on multiple products at the same time or go all in on TrustMRR? and why? I think TrustMRR can be huge.

a while back I replied to this saying I was building a tool to help fix exactly this problem. It’s finally live! you don't have to change your pricing; you just need to fix your treasury routing. FixMyFX calculates exactly how much Lazy Tax you're losing to auto-conversions and how much you could save - fixmyfx.com @chrissyinspace I'd love to launch it on @tinylaunch to help other EU founders. Since it's a 100% free community tool (and my budget is currently £0), do you have a free tier for listings?
Christopher Woggon@chrissyinspace

Any of my European bros considered changing their pricing from USD to Euro? That conversion rate hurts.

this isn't just a Stripe fee. it's an 'auto-conversion' tax. Stripe is converting your USD sales into SGD automatically, likely charging a ~2% spread on top of the processing fee. the fix is basic 'Treasury Management' (controlling your currency flow): 1. Open a USD account (Wise). 2. Link that to Stripe as your payout account. 3. Receive raw USD (no conversion fee). 4. Convert it to SGD yourself at the mid-market rate when you choose. You can wipe out that currency conversion line item overnight.

it's less about which platform you use, and more about how you use it. if every dollar touches 3 countries, your setup is broken. the zero FX leak setup: 🇺🇸 bill in USD -> settle to USD account -> pay US servers. 🇪🇺 bill in EUR -> settle to EUR account -> pay EU freelancers. don't let your revenue bounce between currencies. hold native balances. Airwallex, Wise, Revolut, Stripe - they all do this if you configure them right
Florian Darroman@floriandarroman

RIP Wise. I lost $8,000 in fees last year. And I had no idea. I’m French. I live in Bali. I run a US LLC. Every dollar I earn touches 3 countries before it reaches my pocket. 1. Stripe takes 1%–3% on every transaction. 2. Wise takes a cut on every transfer. 3. Currency conversion eats another big chunk every single time. I thought this was just the cost of doing business internationally. I never questioned it. Then I realized there were other options. @airwallex. was on the top of my list but now I’ll 100% switch. The money I’ll save in fees will make me fly business to Europe for free each year.

Most founders lose 2-5% of revenue to hidden FX fees. I just found I could save SGD 346/year with this tool. Check yours: fixmyfx.com

they actually do have MTLs (and EMIs in Europe) the catch is that an MTL is for transmitting money, not acting as a bank. To issue cards globally and hold deposits, you need a different tier of regulatory approval and local issuing partners in every region. that's why they are moving so slowly on it compared to a pure Treasury app (and that's why they tried to buy airwallex i reckon)

All I hear from Stripe is stablecoin this that Very interesting but as a business I don't care I just want a payment card I can use to pay my server bills WITH the money from my customers that's inside Stripe Why do I have to take it out of Stripe as a payout at all? Why does it need to go to Wise who takes a cut and then I pay Hetzner for my server bill? Why not Stripe balance to Hetzner bill? And if you build that out long enough you can remove the expensive intermediary of payment cards (Visa/MC) too
@levelsio@levelsio

Like the logical step is for @Stripe to be not just a payment service but an actual fintech I have no idea why they're not doing that It makes logical sense my business bank account (Wise) is ALSO the place I accept payments from my startup's customers with a checkout page integrated into my site (Stripe) Stripe isn't offering cards or bank accounts (yes they keep announcing it but where is my Stripe card or bank account then) Wise isn't offering proper checkout pages for my customers Others like Airwallex are starting to offer both

Most founders find out how much they've been losing when they finally sit down and actually calculate it rather than when anything breaks. The P&L looks fine until someone goes line by line and starts questioning things that never got questioned because they were always just there.

unpopular opinion: most founders are leaking 2-5% of their revenue to the Lazy Tax without even realising it. between Stripe's 2% auto-convert fees and high-street bank spreads on SaaS expenses, you’re prob bleeding quite a bit of cash. curious how everyone here handles international revenue?

yes, it works perfectly in SG open a Wise USD account add those US account details to your Stripe SG as the default payout for USD you get 2 benefits: 1. your dashboard reflect USD, 2. you stop paying Stripe's ~2% auto-convert fee to SGD. I actually just built a free tool to calculate exactly how much this specific Wise + Stripe setup saves founders. worth checking your numbers - fixmyfx.com
