Today, I had the honour of speaking to the 47 countries that comprise the @UN #HumanRightsCouncil urging the immediate release of my father @imrankhanpti and all #Pakistan’s #politicalprisoners. Along with this, I want to be very clear. Like my father, I fully support maintaining GSP+ as the people of #Pakistan should never be punished for the actions of its leaders. But the Pakistani regime must also fully comply with the 27 treaties it committed to follow to obtain this benefit, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Convention Against Torture. @UN @ptiofficial #HumanRights #ImranKhanUnlawfullyDetained

We join with the family of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in raising very real concerns about his health and security in detention in Pakistan. There must be independent access and monitoring of his detention and guarantees given for his safety.

The statement on Imran Khan’s detention is not a UN report or a UNHRC finding but a personal opinion by an independent Special Rapporteur with no legal force. She did not visit Adiala Jail, conduct any inspection or review official medical records, and based her claims on secondary inputs and assumptions. Officials deny the allegations, saying judicial inspections, jail rules and documented medical assessments already confirm compliance with national and international standards, and that routine security protocols for high-risk inmates are being framed as mistreatment without verification. They maintain that such concerns should be addressed through formal channels, not speculative commentary.

One of the game's all-round greats, he averaged 40.06 with the bat and 22.22 with the ball from his seventh to his 87th Test. The finest cricketer from Pakistan, he led them to World Cup glory in 1992. #OnThisDay The legendary Imran Khan turns 73

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Conversation with his Family and Lawyers at Adiala Jail - 15 July 2025: "There is absolutely no question of bowing down, even if I have to spend my entire life in prison. I convey this same message to the people of Pakistan: under no circumstances should you submit to this tyrannical system. The time for negotiations has passed. What remains now is the time for the nation to rise in protest. Hardships inflicted upon me in jail have intensified in recent days. The same is true for my wife, Bushra Bibi, who is also facing increasing restrictions. The television in her cell has been shut down. All fundamental human rights and basic prisoner entitlements, both mine and hers, have been suspended. This must be accounted for. I am fully aware that a certain Colonel and Jail Superintendent Anjum are carrying out these actions at the behest of Asim Munir. I issue a clear directive to my party: if any harm comes to me while I remain imprisoned, Asim Munir must be held accountable. Bushra Bibi is being subjected to this cruelty because, during my tenure, after Asim Munir was removed from his position, he sent her a message through Zulfi Bukhari requesting a meeting, which she categorically declined. Since then, he has targeted her with continuous retribution. From day one, it has been his deliberate strategy to break my will by tormenting her. In the very jail where I am being held under inhumane conditions, terrorists and known murderers of hundreds of Pakistanis enjoy better treatment. A military officer named Rizwan is being held in the lap of luxury, while every form of cruelty is inflicted upon me. No matter what they do, I did not bow before this oppression before, nor will I do so now. Under the oppressive watch of Maryam Nawaz and Mohsin Naqvi in Punjab, fascism has taken root for the past two years, extinguishing democracy and crushing all political activity. The arrival of elected representatives in Punjab in the form of a political caravan, in such an environment is a welcome development. At this time, many, including myself, are enduring some of the harshest imprisonments. Therefore, I direct every member of the party to put aside all personal grievances. Publicly airing internal matters or individual concerns before the media is entirely unacceptable. My instruction is firm: whether a senior officeholder or a junior member, no one is to express internal differences on social media, electronic media, print media, or any other platform. Focus exclusively on the protest movement so that fundamental human rights are restored in Pakistan. If any party official fails to participate in this movement, I will make the final decision about them myself, even from within jail. I instruct all party members and office-bearers to personally retweet my messages on Twitter (now X), and ensure they are shared as extensively as possible. The party should decide on nominations for the Senate tickets through mutual consultation."

*A remarkable milestone achieved! Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Pakistani community in New Zealand, the petition titled "Tree of Humanity For All: Justice for Imran Khan" has been officially tabled in the New Zealand House of Representatives. The petition urges the New Zealand Government to: 🔸Call on the Pakistani government to release Imran Khan from detention, 🔸Ensure fair trial standards and allow international observers, 🔸And call for an independent investigation into the allegations of excessive force used during the November 2024 protests. This is a powerful stand for human rights, justice, and democratic values. @PTIofficial @PTIOfficialUSA @PTINZOfficial @ptiausofficial

“Two years ago, I was asked to step aside for three years and allow the current system to function unchallenged. But I won’t stay silent even for three minutes at the behest of any Yazeed [tyrant]. I am being pressured to accept the 26th Constitutional Amendment, yet my entire struggle has been for the rule of law, and this amendment blatantly violates it. They demand that I apologize for May 9th (2023). Yet those who owe the nation an apology are the ones who stole CCTV footage, dishonored women, desecrated homes, imprisoned thousands of political workers, and martyred innocent citizens. If even one hour of the May 9th cases were heard on merit, these baseless cases would collapse instantly. The tragedy here is not only the absence of justice, but that not even a semblance of justice is visible. Nations do not perish under oppression. They are reborn through struggle. The Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) endured thirteen of the most difficult years but remained steadfast and was ultimately triumphant. Therefore, following in his footsteps, we too must stand firm as a nation and fight until the very end. Peaceful protest becomes the only viable path when every door to justice is sealed shut. I call upon the entire nation, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, to prepare for a nationwide protest. Rule of law is entirely suspended in Pakistan. Even the dignity of women is no longer secure. My wife, Bushra Bibi, has been in solitary confinement for 14 months over mere allegations of facilitation, without a single proven charge. Dr. Yasmin Rashid, a cancer survivor and an elderly woman, has been shamelessly jailed under false cases. My sisters, aged between 65 and 70, visit me in jail under High Court orders, which is a basic right, but a Colonel obstructs them, flouting court directives with impunity. My sisters are abducted and abandoned in remote areas in the dead of night. A nation that treats its own women this way has lost its moral compass. When Maryam Nawaz was found guilty of owning five undisclosed flats in London, her bail was granted within two months, because the Sharif family had agreed to a deal. Anyone who bows before tyranny gets absolved of all charges, while those who stand on principle are punished without cause. No foreign investment has come into Pakistan for two years because the world knows that the law here is trampled under a Colonel’s boot. Without investment, there can neither be no economic stability nor development. Investor confidence will remain non-existent as long as judicial orders remain subject to a Colonel’s whims. The entire nation now looks to the judiciary for justice yet the 26th Amendment has crippled the judiciary. There are two motives behind this amendment: The first is to protect a rigged election. And secondly, to keep me, PTI leadership, and its workers incarcerated, violating basic human rights without fear of accountability. There are two direct consequences of this Amendment: 1- The judiciary has entirely surrendered to the executive. The Supreme Court has authorized military courts in direct contradiction of Article 175(3) of the Constitution, which mandates a separation of powers. Special benches are being formed to snatch reserved seats from PTI despite the people voting for us. These seats are being handed to other parties in complete violation of the Constitution. 2- The judiciary is so paralyzed that even High Courts and judges cannot assign cases of their own volition. As a result, I am being denied justice. Sometimes benches for my cases remain incomplete, while hearings are arbitrarily delayed at other times. My cases are deliberately kept in limbo. Even my basic rights under jail regulations are denied—I am not allowed to speak to my children, scheduled meetings with my wife are cancelled, and even my books are withheld. All of this is designed to break my spirit. 1/2
