If you ever get this text from anyone who works in any medical field, but especially emergency medicine, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you do NOT look at the subsequent image

@ick_real Absolutely loved libraries, until going to them made me feel very unsafe in the big city I was in. I wonder if that's improved.

@vbspurs A lot like the movie "Grapes of Wrath." Americans saw extreme poverty while most of the world (reported by the Soviets) thought "wow, poor people there can own cars!".

@meredithg28 @blondemedSJW The one that really surprised me, and I've worked all over the country, was the 'reading Bible' story. It's like their brains say "what's the most implausible thing I could say..."

PSA: if you accidentally shoot yourself with your own gun, it’s ok. As someone working in a level 1 trauma center, I see this all the time. Once every other shift. It’s ok. It’s not embarrassing. It happens to many responsible gun owners. PLEASE don’t lie about it.

@Medzonetv Oh, yes, it was strictly forbidden. But I caught many who would do it anyway. In a pocket, on top of a tote/purse, pretending to text. So I just assumed I was only catching a small percentage of them. No doc wants to be the star of an edited tic tok video.

@TimMorton8 It’s just sad! Did your facility have a formal policy on patients recording consultations?

In many facilities, unauthorised filming in the ward or consulting room is a direct violation of hospital policy. Even secretly voice-recording a consultation without the doctor’s knowledge or consent is a massive breach of professional boundaries and privacy. While a relative may feel they have a right to record their kin, the doctor also has a right to a safe, unhindered working environment. When a phone is pulled out during a physical examination or hidden to record a conversation, the focus shifts from diagnosis to litigation. This forces the doctor into “defensive medicine” rather than quality care. Walking away was the right call. You cannot provide your best medical judgment when you are being staged for a potential viral video. Once the camera comes out without a mutual agreement, you are in your right to end the consultation process.

Was about to do an abdominal examination for a patient. A nurse was inside the room, same as the patient's relative. She then goes and brings out a phone and starts recording. I said it's unethical to video me without my consent and hence I will stop doing what I was doing. She replied that she's within her rights to video her sister. That's how the consultation ended

A musician once cost an airline $180 million because they wouldn’t pay him $1,200 for a broken guitar. In 2008, Canadian musician Dave Carroll was on a connecting flight when a passenger behind him looked out the window and said, “My God, they’re throwing guitars out there.” When Carroll opened his case at his destination, his $3,500 Taylor acoustic, an instrument he’d saved for months to buy, had a hole smashed through it. He called the airline. They bounced him between departments for nine months. He was told to fly to another country to file his complaint in person. He was hung up on, ignored, and eventually told the matter was closed. His final request for $1,200 in flight vouchers to cover repair costs was rejected. So he asked himself: “If Michael Moore was a singer-songwriter, what would he do?” He wrote a song called “United Breaks Guitars,” filmed a music video for $150, and uploaded it to the internet. His goal was one million views in a year. It hit 150,000 on the first day. Within a week it was the number one music video in the world. Within four weeks, news outlets reported the airline’s share price had dropped 10%, wiping roughly $180 million in value. The airline called him. They offered the $1,200 they’d originally refused, plus $1,200 in cash. The owner of Taylor Guitars personally rang and told him to come to the factory and pick out two guitars as a gift. Carroll became an international speaker on customer service. The airline used his video for internal training. He still flies with them. A United employee once walked up to him at an airport, looked around to make sure no colleagues were watching, shielded himself with his jacket, and quietly reached out to shake his hand.

I assume CVS has done the math on locking 30% of their inventory behind plexiglass but surely they just barely sell any of that stuff anymore. I just had to run and buy printer paper and I would have grabbed some nail polish too had it not been locked up like a meth precursor.
