@jemgilbert @meadwaj Coopting efficiency from the right could well be a masterstroke. Efficiency is the corner stone of neoliberalism and small state except it isn't in the least bit efficient. If the left can dismantle that, it could be existential for the right.

@Geoff_Hackney @AaronBastani Yes I get all that, but polls also show that Labour has lost more votes to the left/greens than it has to Reform. I can see the Conservative loses going to Reform, and some of the the Labour loses,but for that prediction to make sense over 1000 Labour seats are going to Reform.🤔

@TimSimonH @AaronBastani The Greens will do well where there is a large student population and where there is a large Muslim population. They will do well in urban areas and university towns. Elsewhere the voting system is likely to work against them. They are still 10% behind Reform in the opinion polls

@meadwaj I completely agree but to be fair left economic policy is not simple. It's easy if you are on the right, just more of the same, Neoliberal economics has stayed they same for nearly 50 years. Left economics is necessarily much more complicated and nuanced.

The tragedy for some part of the left is that their ambitions don’t run any further than “stopping austerity”. That’s no longer good enough. We need to be talking about redistribution, asset ownership, price controls, strategic reserves of key supplies. The 2010s are long gone.

Update Diego Garcia: Further info shows the most likely scenario is that NO missiles were fired on or near Diego Garcia. No credible satellite, radar, video or debris has been released to show any missiles were fired at or near Diego Garcia—only claims from unnamed US officials first made by Reuters and repeated. Iran denies it. UK and in-depth investigation disputes Iran has missile capability beyond 2-3k. Looks like a nothing burger started by unnamed US Govt sources and just repeated without critical examination.

It doesn't matter. Those are the disruptions I concede will happen. But within a few weeks, it will all stabilize with makeshift supply from alternative suppliers. And Iran cannot do that blockade for the Strait of Hormuz forever- China gets oil from through that channel as well and eventually, they will also sing the message- let the ships pass without any disruption. Plus, remember Iran itself needs oil revenue! A closed channel means they also cannot sell and with the war now at full swing, they need every dollar for their war industry. Eventually the allies, including the Arab world will bomb the s$#&t out of Iran and they will have a zero capability of attempting to pick on the ships passing through the channel.

Gorton and Denton was 127th on the Greens target list (they came third in 2024, with 13% of the vote). Two things: 1) There is no longer such thing as a 'safe seat' for Labour. 2) The Greens are going to have to work out how to run an expansive campaign in 2029, without sacrificing efficient targeting.

The first proper poll of Gorton and Denton is out, conducted by Omnisis. It shows: 🟢 The Greens on 22% 🟣 Reform UK on 20% 🔴 Labour on 18% 🤷‍♀️ Undecideds on 31% It shows the Greens are best placed to defeat Reform - but it all depends on Undecideds.

@Stephen1970t Do you not understand that terrorism is a subset of violence and murder. Not all murderers are terrorists. It's not the location or number of deaths or whether it is planned that makes it terrorism. Many murders are planned the majority aren't terrorism.
