So ‘absolute’ free speech may never have existed in practice, but the principle absolutely evolved and expanded. That evolution is one of the foundations of modern Western democracy. The real debate isn’t whether free speech should exist at all. It’s where the limits sit, who decides them, and whether those limits are applied consistently and proportionately. Because once a government starts deciding which political opinions are too dangerous to hear, history also teaches us that power rarely stays confined to the people you dislike.

Do you ever think of calling it a day and buggering off abroad, Daniel? With great regret, at 60, I've concluded too many either don't get it or don't want to, the UK is locked into terminal decline compared to other options (eg Switzerland in my case). There comes a point when you just want to provide for your kids, and I can see wealth/exit/100% IHT taxes incoming before the next GE. Would be interested in your thoughts.

Most people who use mobility aids can walk, because mobility levels can fluctuate. I am a part time wheelchair user, I can walk but I have Ménière’s disease and I never know when it will hit. I also have fibromyalgia and hypermobility and some days it’s so bad I need my wheelchair. Maybe she needs it just Incase she has a flare up with something affecting her mobility. Not all disabilities are visible.
