@davepl1968 Like every other computer program, they are deterministic. If you give me the input (including RNG seeds), I can tell you the output.

A lot of people don't seem to understand that if you ask an AI the SAME question, you will get the SAME answer. Every. Single. Time. To avoid that, the models "salt" your prompt by adding random input params so that the model does not take the same path. But LLMs are not random or unpredictable - if you ask it the name of TinTin's dog, and it gives you an answer, then the same model with the same weights and the same input will ALWAYS say Snowy.

For the love of god. EVERYTHING A MODEL DOES IS MAKING STUFF UP. EVERY OUTPUT IS A HALLUCINATION it's not a bug, it's how it works. "it can also make things up, a tendency known as hallucination" Why is this so hard to understand, people? It works amazingly most of the time. It's great. But every single thing you see is made up. It's PRETENDING, not understanding It's guessing, not knowing This does not make it worthless, it makes it magical and powerful and helpful, but it's not intelligence, It's relationships in data.

I'm writing a Dave's Garage episode on why new computers are slower than old ones (spoiler alert: it's the software). After enjoying my obligatory photo of counting 6502 cycles like it was the olden days, let me know what you think is the biggest factor in why current code is so much slower than old code. Here are my basic premises so far: - We lost the hardware constraints that kept us honest - No enforced CPU/RAM budgets, no daily benchmarks - Abstractions without accounting for their costs - Incentives shifted towards feature release speed - Lowered perf standards, where "it works" is enough - Dependency explosions in code - AI is also a multiplier of mediocrity What am I missing?
