At no point did he admit they’re known for piracy, he says they’re known for a role in a movie. You’re confusing defending your gut with being honest about your gut. I can honesty report my gut reaction to something (unlike this dude who refused to) that doesn’t mean I am defending what my gut says. This is not the same thing. That’s my point. This guy should just be honest about how Somalis are perceived and if he disagrees with the perception make a case, instead of just playing dumb.

Thie exchange explains a lot about the post-fact world we are stuck in. Claims get loyalty before they get scrutiny, confidence substitutes for understanding, and humility gets framed as fear. When people are trained to lock in early and fight forever, learning becomes some sort of betrayal.
