Getting low-confidence #AlphaFold predictions for your favorite membrane protein? Try adding some fatty acids to the mix! 👇
Daniel Hurdiss@DanielHurdiss

Amazingly, this gave us a high-confidence transmembrane channel for both mouse and human norovirus NS3, with oleic acids forming a bilayer-like pattern. Our group now call this the “fatty acid hack.” The #alphafold predictions with and without fatty acids shown below 👇

Our paper describing the #cryoEM structures of unusual spike proteins from marine mammal–infecting gammacoronaviruses is now published in PLOS Pathogens! 🐬 journals.plos.org/plospathogens/…
Daniel Hurdiss@DanielHurdiss

Think coronavirus spikes have run out of surprises? Think again. Our latest preprint dives into the highly unusual spikes of marine mammal coronaviruses. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… This #cryoEM study was led by @rubenhulswit, with key contributions from an amazing team.

CryoCloud Map of the Month: PDCoV RBD in complex with two neutralising Fabs For August, we reprocessed the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) spike in complex with two neutralising antibody Fabs fragments. 🔬 Cryo-EM reveals two distinct neutralising epitopes, pointing to pathways for synergistic antibody combinations against a potential pandemic threat. This study also showcases how multiplexing antibodies delivers more structural insight with less cost and processing time. 🧠 Processing on CryoCloud: • 4,736 movies • 35.5 h of cloud compute • Final map: 2.7 Å from 120,787 particles - representing an improvement of 0.3 Å vs the previously published 3 Å map Publication from the @UtrechtVirology Lab: nature.com/articles/s4146… Send us a DM for more info or visit cryocloud.io! #CryoEM #StructuralBiology #AntibodyDiscovery #Virology #EpitopeMapping #SBDD #MapOfTheMonth #MOTM #CryoCloud

Excited to share our paper identifying that bat coronavirus HKU5 uses ACE2 from its native bat host and American mink as a receptor. This highlights farmed mink has a high risk intermediate host for HKU5-like viruses. nature.com/articles/s4146… @YaleIBIO @YaleMed
