@ViciousKnish@Sirens_Scales babe i ain’t reading all that but i agree everything has many shades and a lot of things can be true at the same time!
writing is very selfish in itself bc i only care about saying what I want to say, too
all the love and support to the fellow author!
This is dumb and vulnerable and I may regret asking and delete, but here goes anyway: fic writers, how do you deal with the heartbreak of having a project you were very excited about absolutely flopping? I had a bunch more planned & written. I can’t bring myself to open the doc
@dmnexppwp@Sirens_Scales I think when most people say "write for yourself" they mean it's helpful to have an internal motivation to fall back on when you don't get the response you hoped for, because so much of that IS luck.
@dmnexppwp@Sirens_Scales It's not a matter of being a "real artist" or not. Wanting to connect with people by telling a story is a wonderful motivation. But it's not performative pick-me behavior to have a different relationship with writing.
@huckledenn emergency medicine full stop I watch other medical dramas and I’m like stop making out and get back to work. this is not me being anti-ship I just like the medicine that much. I think I’m an outlier tho lol
@aozorawaltz I don’t see how John Carter makes it through COVID when he’s immunocompromised from the anti-rejection medication he takes as a kidney transplant patient. Because you know he’d insist on working.
every day i wake up and i am grateful the pitt wasnt adapted as a continuation of er because i dont think there is a possibility john carters story wouldnt end in suicide
@saidthestrling@n3wsk1n It’s libertarian philosophically but it’s not exclusively libertarian. It’s not out of character for a liberal. I think of Abbot as more or less a Bill Clinton dem.
@ViciousKnish@n3wsk1n breaking the law so a teenager can get an abortion is extremely libertarian tbf but yeah i mean he’s part of SWAT so maybe he’s like, a biden dem
@n3wsk1n One of the keynote speakers at the 2016 DNC was Khizr Khan, the father of a US soldier who died in Iraq. Jack Abbot is the target audience for that. Everything we know about him is consistent with a mainstream normie liberal. He’s most likely a registered Democrat.
@vivithebanshee Literally the first day they met Whitaker saw Robby at his most vulnerable 😭I think that Whitaker still admires and look up to him and keeps that moment private means so much to him
No need to apologize. I do see your point about him still keeping things for himself because he’s still struggling with them! I also find that really interesting. Ultimately the main point of my whole post for me was that their bond is really special and the fact that he shared anything at all is significant and we see the pay off of that in S2 with how much Robby cares for Whitaker. 🫶🏻
Actually kind of shocked that Dana didn’t know Robby wasn’t raised by his mother and instead his grandmother, despite them working together for over a decade.
But he told Whitaker the first day he met him 😭
I find it most interesting because he tells Dana when she says she didn’t know “Who needs to know? Who gives a fuck?” Because it means he can’t be vulnerable in that way and share those things about himself even with people he’s worked with for so long because he finds it either unnecessary or worse that no one would care if he did.. and that’s heartbreaking!!!
So Robby, someone who can’t open up, sharing that information along with other deep things (like him not sure if he believes in god) with Whitaker is really special to me, because I think in that moment, after Whitaker helped him off the floor in the pedes room, he knew that Whitaker wouldn’t judge him for sharing that information. He knew he could be vulnerable with him and that Whitaker cared. In the first day they met.
Not even saying it’s special because of Hucklerobby in a romantic way, but in terms of their canonical bond.. yeah. I really REALLY enjoy this aspect of their dynamic.
@vivithebanshee I agree that he was comfortable enough to share with Whitaker AND I find it interesting that he still held back something big. I don’t think it makes him sharing with Whitaker less special or significant or diminishes the moment at all.
@vivithebanshee I’m approaching it with hindsight too. That’s why it’s so important to me that “I lived with my grandmother” and “my parents didn’t raise me” are two separate statements. Knowing how much he hates talking about his mom, it’s significant that he only tells Whitaker the first half.
@vivithebanshee I’m sorry, I may have misunderstood something. My point was that even though we know NOW, it wasn’t clear from that conversation alone that his mom left, which means Whitaker doesn’t have enough info to assume that he was raised only by his grandmother.
@vivithebanshee Whitaker doesn’t know why Robby lived with his grandmother. The point of that line is that it hints at a difficult childhood but doesn’t say exactly what happened because Robby isn’t open about it. That’s significant to the narrative.
@vivithebanshee We’re not supposed to know Robby’s mom abandoned him in season 1. If we were they would have told us. We’re supposed to learn more as the story unfolds. S1 hints at it and it’s natural that some people would figure it out but that line IS ambiguous.
