@ViciousKnish @dmnexppwp I will agree with you on this point: intrinsic motivation is extremely important not just for art but for self-fulfillment in general. I need to work on that. Unfortunately I have ADHD, which makes intrinsic motivation very, very difficult to achieve.

@duskcry it’s a horseshoe theory kinda thing where at some point giving this advice outright gaslights the person into believing they’re wrong for wanting recognition and the only correct way to create is to be a fairy on the stardust of their own vibes which is the case with OP i think

@dmnexppwp It isn’t “pick me” for ppl to have other motivations in the creative process than you. Ppl give that advice bc young writers basing their self worth off of numbers in an attention economy like the internet can be gen dangerous for the reasons you just outlined above

@dmnexppwp @Sirens_Scales I think when most people say "write for yourself" they mean it's helpful to have an internal motivation to fall back on when you don't get the response you hoped for, because so much of that IS luck.

i’m not weird for liking my own fics right??? i do reread them and enjoy them as a reader… it doesn’t feel THAT cringe… its jus the mistakes and awkward pace that make me wince and it makes me think like “huh i prob could have phrased if i thought about it longer”
