@Nusbacher Exactly. Because they don’t need to. No road rage, robberies, or other typical crime to speak of. Our bases are generally highly polite communities. I mean, they actually stop for people using the crosswalk for goodness sake.

I’m going to sharpen the point: we know the level of operational research and procurement rigour that goes into selecting a service sidearm. If soldiers need to go around a secure base tooled up, why not just issue them a SIG or a rifle?

The few times I had to go about my business on a well-secured Army camp with a handgun in a holster were irritating. How bad is your guard force if you need to be tooled up on base? And if you need to be, why not issue a firearm instead of carrying personal weapons?
