Carlos Lagrange is showing everyone that he’s ready for MLB. Thoughts on his promising spring and strike-zone approach: 👇 patreon.com/posts/carlos-l…

@AdamHorowitzLA @FolliesBlue Agree. He does have to battle a bit because his sweeper is not going to be in the zone a lot when he’s ahead in the count. Usually leads to long count and then he’ll need to mix in more fastballs (which isn’t his strength).

@YankeeSource @FolliesBlue Watching him — it seems like he needs to work on his pitch mix. Like he goes to the fast ball too much. His sweeper looked great, he had a nice K of Kirk on one. Maybe he just needs to be less predictable

@FolliesBlue Yea. He’s not pitching to a .500 BABIP this year. What I do like is the 12.41 K/9 and 2.19 BB/9. Results have been bad, but that’s the underlying stat that could lead to some success.

@jerktweets I do think he’s going to have moments where he gives up a ton of runs. Seems like that type of arm where he either dominates for five or blows the game in three.

@YankeeSource Spring stats don't matter and he could be working on something and pitching atypically, however id be a bit concerned at how easily guys were putting his stuff in play. He's not gonna run that high during the season so you hope he limits the damage when it counts

It has seemed like a mix of hard hits and some bad luck mixed in. Even yesterday he gave up some weak contact hits. He gave up a lot of hard hits last year, so this isn’t something new to him. Ultimately it’s going to come down to how well he executes his fastball in counts, because that’s not a plus pitch for him.

@YankeeSource These are stats. Surely law of averages - Have you seen the batted balls though? I did. Not many bloops, dribblers, Baltimore chops, seeing-eye grounders, bunt surprises. Ropes.

@YankeeSource "deep Yankees analysis" Proceeds to cherry pick a stat with zero context behind it. Even abbreviates spring training to try to make it even more subtle. Fucking 🤡

@jeff_zweig There is a lot more to this move though. Roster status, control. This was an obvious decision based on those factors.

@miketee2356 Service time is probably a reason as well. I don't think Lagrange had any real shot at being a roster add.

@YankeeSource Leave it to the Yankees to keep Winquest because Cashman has to prove how smart he was to take him in R5 instead of Lagrange who was easily the most impressive pitcher in camp.

@YankeeSource Fernando Cruz is the 7th or 8th inning set up man not the last bullpen spot unless you mean someone else

Cade Winquest has had an advantage because of his Rule 5 status, but he doesn’t deserve an Opening Day roster spot. Bird or Cruz makes more sense for that last bullpen spot.

The Yankees spring offense was a lot more entertaining with Spencer Jones in the lineup every day.

@DonnieCollinsTT I feel a bit more bullish on Weathers than Gil right now, but neither have shown much. Warren looks like the better starter and that’s okay. Weathers in a pen role at some point wouldn’t hurt the Yanks.

@YankeeSource I would have put someone like Will Warren in that category a few years ago. Stuff was always great, and he'd get hit hard start after start anyway. He turned it around. Different scenarios obviously, but not all hope is lost for Weathers. I'd give Lagrange a look. Right now.

This guy is going to drive fans to the brink. The metrics are always going to be on his side, and the org will give him plenty of chances. But actual results don't back up the stuff those metrics insist he has, and generally haven't throughout his big league career.
Yankeesource@YankeeSource

It was a strange start for Weathers. He had 11 whiffs and 78% first pitch strikes. His stuff looks good, but the results are poor. Really good hitting by the Jays as usual.

Giancarlo Stanton has hit some lasers in recent days that resulted in outs. Hit one 110.5 mph today (HR in 23/30 parks) which resulted in a flyout.
