Tip no 3 : Own your work, let no one take your shine. It is often the case that supervisors take ownership of your work. That is acceptable to a some extent but it should be a way to burry you. CTO even though did not have a CS nor SW eng background was always giving impressions that certain architecture decisions and outputs were his. I decided to put on my narcissist tech hat: - I left out very important details in my briefs or - I enshroud them in very convoluted tech jargon. - I become evasive with info and gave out what I think a CTO should know(high level info). - I delay with the info till last minute to stakeholder meetings so that I can elicits the solution myself and properly acknowledge my team. Tip no 4: Don't focus only on your work, be sniffing around to know how the company is doing financially and what direction management are driving the company. This is very important. Do not wait till layoff comes or you are unhappy before you start searching. After a year in a company just be applying to different companies and interview for fun. It helps you evaluate your employability and also serves as an interview prep for the near future.
