Humans Are Weak. Humans With Tools Are Unstoppable. In one of Steve Jobs’ early talks on Apple’s vision, he cites a 1970s Scientific American study on the movement efficiency of different species. The winner was the condor. Humans ranked poorly. Then they tested humans on bicycles. Humans won by a massive margin. The lesson wasn’t about bikes. It was about tools. Human intelligence isn’t special because it’s powerful on its own. It’s special because it can build tools that amplify its abilities. Computers were never meant to replace humans. They were meant to remove barriers between people and their problems. The real leap isn’t artificial intelligence. It’s amplified human agency. That’s the direction we’re moving toward now.
