No one would sit down at a craps table where one player gets to pick how the dice land. But today that’s how many prediction markets work.  @ChrisMurphyCT and I have a bill to fix it.

CapMetro currently only gets 4% of its expenses from fares It could easily make the bus free with minor changes In the past they've said the fare is there to keep homeless from camping on the bus.. but I believe they already ride for free, so its really just a tax on the poor
Mayor Pro Tem Chito Vela, III@chitoforatx

Forgot to mention it’s completely free! Dropped fares during the pandemic and kept it no fare since then. Would love to know more about the finances on that.

You may know him as a labor leader and icon of the chicano movement but did you know he was also a Kung Fu master? (or a sous chef...either one) 🤡🤣

The union is protesting because they know centralization removes silos of information, stops departments from hiding behind their own little fiefdoms, and finally lets taxpayers see where their money actually goes. Imagine a segment of private sector employees protesting centralization so the org can get real time data insights, become more agile & be able to make quick decisions? It's not about “worker rights” or “public health/safety.” It’s about preserving the darkness where incompetence, turf wars, and padded budgets thrive.

Several union members were at the tech commission yesterday to protest the proposed IT centralization But the CIO gave a great example of why we need it, the city currently pays for 12 different business intelligence softwares , whereas a normal org would only need 2 or 3

While Donald Trump and Stephen Miller are showing unprecedented disregard for the basic Constitutional rights of Americans, the last thing we should be doing is handing them massive surveillance powers they will abuse. ktla.com/hill-politics/…

Most of the approved “daycares” have concerning deficiencies documented in state inspections, including missing background checks, cross-contamination of EpiPens, sippy cups, and bottles, reports of serious injuries, and unsafe playground equipment, just to name a few. According to the evaluation, only 40% of the parents receiving free daycare even attempted to secure employment. Some daycare facilities are also located outside of the program’s approved ZIP codes. In addition, not all centers meet the required Texas Rising Star rating for participation in the program. BakerRipley is charging an excessive 25% in administrative fees, bringing the cost to taxpayers to nearly $40,000 per child annually. These centers do not offer true educational programs. They are primarily care facilities, functioning more like babysitting services than early childhood education providers. The program was presented as supporting early childhood education, yet many of these centers lack any meaningful curriculum. And the county just shoved another mil of funding into it from our tax dollars.

Harris County, TX Item 181. More Subsidized Childcare Slots 😲 Commissioners approve (?) giving BakerRipley another million to subsidize more childcare through Early REACH — Raising Educational Access for Children in Harris County. Request by the Office of the Purchasing Agent that the County Judge execute an amendment to an agreement with BakerRipley in the additional amount of $932,036 to update the budget in Exhibit B and update the Federal Award Identification Table in Exhibit E for Child Care Contracted Slots Program for the Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity for the extended period of January 31, 2025 - December 31, 2026 (220193), MWBE Contracted Goal: 2%. Why did we just give them another million bucks to increase the number of childcare slots for a program that is ending in September? Passes 3:1 Ramsey is a no! harriscountytx.legistar.com/LegislationDet…
