@Streettough Less 16 year olds work today then historically. I think it’s to do with a) minimum wage rises and child protection laws meaning minors aren’t as easily exploited and b) school and exams are more full on now with less subjects having coursework options.

At 16 I was studying a levels, playing in a band and working 3 or 4 shifts per week in a fast food restaurant. I was using the money earned to go to gigs and out drinking in pubs/clubs. You may have been a dweeb, but many 16/17 years olds are perfectly mature and responsible.

At 16 I was playing Sonic the Hedgehog. 16 year olds are legally defined in UK law as children. But hey, when the country (and in fact the entire world) is going to Hell in a handcart, giving children the vote is the least of our worries right now.

@Ye_Olde_Holborn @Midge1415 @OWS1892 She was sent home for not following school dress code, which is standard practice in most schools. She wasn’t sent home because it had a Union Jack on it.
English

@Midge1415 @OWS1892 I’m a sensible centrist ~ I’m not the one sending a child home for wearing a Union flag.

@PatrickCragg Oh how awful🙃 it reads so clunky and adds nothing to their analysis!

@trainteachgrow @MissWalton26 @Team_English1 Students need to be able to compare every poem as they don’t know which will be the named poem. Therefore, I would recommend learning 3-4 quotes for 5-6 poems, ensuring that those 3-4 quotes per poem covers all of the poems in terms of comparison

If school leaders listened to English teachers they wouldn't allow this type of markload to occur.

If English teachers spoke honestly about markload, I reckon no-one would apply to teach the subject ever again.

@BFC_1882_ @michaelmahony01 @SkyNews Yes & an abortion is taking responsibility. If you don’t wish to be pregnant/raise a child, abortion is a choice. It’s futile discussing this so this will be my last response now as we fundamentally disagree on a woman’s bodily autonomy, what consent is and the purpose of coitus

@BFC_1882_ @michaelmahony01 @SkyNews Yes scientifically one is more developed and until a fetus reaches a state when it can independently survive, it’s the host choice if they continue that pregnancy hence why laws are implave that prevent non-medically needed abortions post certain dates
English

@BFC_1882_ @michaelmahony01 @SkyNews Because consent is the giving of permission. If consent cannot be withdraw it is not by definition consent
English

@BFC_1882_ @michaelmahony01 @SkyNews Because one can breathe and function without a host, the other is reliant on another purpose body for survival.
English

@BFC_1882_ @michaelmahony01 @SkyNews Also, just because a person consents to sex and by you definition pregnancy doesn’t mean they can’t remove this consent and therefore have an abortion?
