@BurnerDial @Muscles44 @Afrophileee @bomani_jones Ya, other white ppl lol. David Simons talks about how little diversity his writers room had. Maybe you shouldn’t be so dismissive of other people based on their skin color.

@bomani_jones Not a race guy, but this is normally the take I hear from people who can’t process expressions of emotional depth and agency from non-members of their in-group.

It's crazy how if a white person said this they'd get jumped on way quicker

Never actually saw a commercial for it before. Was randomly introduced to it one day during summer camp and never saw and ad for it before that or since.

And, as a very unbiased party who doesn't follow Earl's music like that (not for any lack of interest), the idea that these two are realistically similar in the "white rap fan" volume of their fanbase.....so out of touch

Not even saying that derogatorily, mind you. Truly have never heard any other demographic of person mention him in real life.

If it weren't obvious, I absolutely do not hate categorically "K-Pop" (an ultimately nebulous, overly broad term as far as its applied, popular use) youtube.com/watch?v=YEfExr…

@sonikku956 @irose_R2 Same take. A lot of it, in the absence of it being prioritized over the reference point, I hear mostly in the sense of "this would go hard in a mix if I blended it with X song/mixed it into X song in a live set!"

@irose_R2 My problem with this (besides the obvious) is that it's just fine. There's nothing super unique about what they're doing with the genre. It just sounds like contemporary pop/new jack swing from the era.

@thediscocat Interestingly the outcome of her family being BIG Michael fans to the point that their home was collectively anti-Prince 🤣

Finding out my MJ fanatic coworker has a lot of opinions on Prince....despite not having heard any of his music 😭

Many other people during that period were doing the same thing. Rick James precedes Prince and is literally doing just that. He was making "Punk funk" before Prince mixed New Wave into his music. This doesn't touch any of the other artists who did this in the 70s as well.
Kelden Robertson@KeldenRobertso1

@LonelEyeEyeEye Nah I cant agree with that. Prince was revolutionary. He was truly his own artist Yes he was influenced by others but those artists were also influenced by older artists. Prince was melding funk rock & soul. So many after him we're influence like D'Angelo, Miguel, Bruno Mars etc
