Epictetus believed that genuine learning and personal growth can only occur when an individual recognizes their own limitations and approaches new information or experiences with an attitude of receptivity. If someone believes they already know everything about a subject, they close themselves off from the possibility of acquiring new knowledge and insights.
Individuals have control over their beliefs, attitudes, and responses to external events. By acknowledging their own ignorance or lack of complete understanding, individuals can cultivate the humility necessary for intellectual and moral development.
