@the_ason @neeratanden Economics doesn’t cause every crime to be committed but it can stop every crime from being committed. She speaks to changing economic opportunities to avoid creating criminals and victims.

@artangeIs @neeratanden not every crime is done for economic reasons. You can't just blame everything on what you're against. They blame economic issues because they're socialist who oppose capitalism. Humans have been committing acts of violence against each other line then homo sapians have existed

@MarmatRyan @DarializaforNY Because people like Darializa advocate for making it clear deportation is a cruel and dehumanizing punishment. You’re showing that many voters agree with this sentiment enough to change state or local lass based on specific groups.

No matter one's thoughts on the primary in #NY13, @DarializaforNY is clearly the candidate for anyone who wants progressive politics to win at the end of the day and who believes the left needs electeds who genuinely, ideologically believe in a left-wing vision for the US.

@stillhereamI @_Henn_Dawg1 @GumSlinger @neeratanden She literally says what her method is. Improving and changing the economic conditions of what enables criminality will then allow us as a society to then discuss changing how we view punishment and rehabilitation.

@MarmatRyan @DarializaforNY And your view allows men to beat and rape undocumented women because they will not file a police report because you advocate for the punishment of simply being undocumented to be dehumanizing deportations.

@_Henn_Dawg1 @GumSlinger @neeratanden She points how in the very question before this that people who commit crimes go to jail. That is literally already our criminal justice system.

@MarmatRyan @DarializaforNY Why do you refuse to say victims of murders deserve justice and intervention before the murder takes place? Does a domestic violence victim need economic opportunity so she can leave a DV situation or does she only get justice in her murderer going to jail after the fact?

@GumSlinger @maria_rosaaaa @neeratanden There is already an answer to what should be done about murders. We have a criminal justice system. Her focus is on stopping the economic conditions that fuel criminality and often make non-violent crime seem necessary or heighten the risk of violent crime.

@maria_rosaaaa @neeratanden Her words are not being twisted; she didn't answer the question and even this spin on it says she didn't answer the question. And you didn't answer the question, either: What, specifically, should be done about murderers?

@jakefromgeorgia @Crime_In_NYC You don’t seem to understand how immigration law currently works. She’s not calling to expand DACA. She’s calling for immigration reform and that getting people documented is the solution when an undocumented person is found, or insta-deporting them.

@artangeIs @Crime_In_NYC What the actual fuck are you talking about? Where did I say I wanted to deport children? I said I think her position of expanding a policy like DACA to *violent criminals* is insane.

The principle of "double jeopardy" applies to punishing the same crime twice. If someone kills 15 people, is sentenced to prison, is released, runs out and kills another 15 people, and then gets arrested, you don't jump up, point an accusing finger and shout "Wait a second, that's double jeopardy!"

@jakefromgeorgia @Crime_In_NYC I think you’re illiterate. Removing the dehumanizing punishment to being undocumented is not special punishment. It’s immigration reform. Why do you want to deport undocumented children to countries they’ve never known before?

@artangeIs @Crime_In_NYC Yes they would. Deportation is an explicit part of immigration law. Anyone who has such a remedy taken off the table for them is being given a special privilege (see DACA). You and her are advocating for *expanding that protection* to violent criminals.

@GumSlinger @neeratanden They go to jail. She literally says in the quote you’re responding to that this is already how our criminal justice operates. Her view is irrelevant because we are not changing prisons overnight. What matters is creating economic conditions that help people avoid criminality.

@MarmatRyan @DarializaforNY They already do go to jail. As a legislator who has to vote on federal legislation - mostly financial - she wants to create economic opportunities that make it so people don’t live in environments where criminality becomes so easily seen as necessary.

@jakefromgeorgia @Crime_In_NYC Sending people to jail is not protecting them. Why do you want to deport back children to countries they’ve never been who have never committed crimes. Most voters agree that is insane.

@artangeIs @Crime_In_NYC On top of that, it’s obviously bad policy. People who are convicted of violent crimes should not be afforded special protection against deportation on the basis that this is administrative law (which you seem to be suggesting is not real law?).

@artangeIs @Crime_In_NYC Deportation is a punishment for the violation of an administrative law. While discretion can and should be used to determine *who* receives the harshest punishments, the executive branch cannot simply refuse to enforce the law altogether, as you are advocating.

@DiscourseMKE @neeratanden She says economic reasons cause circumstances that fuel crime & make people victims to crime. She is not a prosecutor. Her role in Congress would be about economic opportunities for domestic violence victims, for example, to escape, not just justice after crime occurs.
