Speaking of Mamdani’s “Department of Community Safety,” worth keeping in mind the plan for it is mostly moving (& expanding on) existing programming into a new vertical (so most of campaign estimate $1.1B annual expense is already accounted for - tho TBD if plays out that way)

this is v similar to the campaign plan, which almost fully outlined reorg of existing programs

The Office of Community Safety that Mayor Mamdani will create via executive order today is, at least for now, just placing existing homeless outreach and crime prevention programs, like B-HEARD and OPHC, under the new Office's umbrella, per org chart shared by City Hall.

Tisch says NYPD budgeted uniform headcount is just over 35K & PD currently has a little under 35K - she says she'd of course be happy to have more cops but sticking with ~35K is a "strong" force
