On a trek away from the city. TIL that the western ghats were not formed by standard Fold patterns but instead an “escarpment”. This is when 2 plates pull apart and the ocean part subsides and the section that stays up becomes a cliff. The western ghats in fact have an identical twin separated at birth - the Madagascar escarpment which forms the other half of the original rift and faces east toward us.

@_svs_ Quality is fixable but laying the foundations of land acquisition is invaluable. As infra optimists we should 100% push quality bar but never slow down closing our massive infra debt.

Going out on a limb here - all of Modi infrastructure will amount to a net zero if not massive net negative impact over the next decade or so. You will still be driving three hours a day in Mumbai. Average road travel speed will be stuck below 60kph. Number of fatalities will be same. Trillions spent for nothing.

SHOCKING EXPOSÉ: Brand new highway overbridge near Chidambaram on NH collapses into Kollidam river just days after "completion"! This ₹6,431 crore "development" project under the BJP-led Centre's watch has turned into a nightmare for Tamil Nadu. Taxpayer money looted, shoddy work, zero accountability classic BJP corruption playbook! While Modi ji talks about "world-class infrastructure," bridges are sinking like their promises.

Quickest litmus test of how cooked a software company is with agents. How scared would you be if a competitor got access to your entire codebase?

🚨 Bangalore’s Church Street after a ₹9 crore makeover (just 715m). Why can’t every part of India look like this? This should be standard - not an exception.

Lot has been said about paid marketing in the past 48h. It’s true that many iconic companies relied on paid to grow. But it’s also true that they did that in a different time and in creative ways they figured out. Was listing to @AcquirdFM’s Airbnb episode at the gym this morning where they highlight how a young Airbnb used paid Google Ads for guests and Facebook Ads with interest targeting for hosts back in 2009. It worked because of 2 things: 1 - Early mover advantage to capture alpha on the marketing channel 2 - A new creative strategy for interest based targeting Paid media will happily take your money. But the most creative companies will figure out how to get alpha from new channels and new content. Regardless of whether paid or organic. Curious to hear ideas here. For example, while building @HotlinesAI, our key thesis has been that people focus too much on the campaign and too little on the destination.

Paid marketing is the crudest game you can play. It’s admitting you have no creativity. And actually restricts your creativity. Fire those that want to spend more. abovethecrowd.com/2012/09/04/the…

Many have reacted that this was sad but this was not the intent of the post! It’s easy to romanticise the beautiful 7 islands but the truth is that the intertidal zones were swampy, marshy, and notorious mosquito hotspots. Original Bombay was described as a “pestilential swamp” by the British and even declared worthless by the Portuguese. Reclaiming the hills to create solid ground we all enjoy as Marine Drive and more may not have been perfect, but makes the thriving city of today. Thoughtful development is key to building the cities of the future. And sometimes involves tradeoffs.

Everyone knows the Mumbai was built from reclamations. Few know that it was Mumbai's own hills that fed this reclamation. The original Bombay was 7 islands dotted with 22 hills. Early visitors described the sight of arriving in Mumbai harbor as a "superb amphitheater" of "wood-crowned heights". To merge the islands, those hills were quarried and thrown into the sea. Dongri, Chinchpokli, Mazagaon, Ghodapdeo. The rock that once rose above the waterline became the waterline.

Been thinking about how new 'operating systems' being built can impact productivity at firms using them. If a software models industry best-practices well enough, does it replace training by making employees adopt certain ways of working? From the Economist:

You know you’re in the startup capital of the country when even the municipal corporation tries to build a moat.. literally. @BbmpchdTeam @bbmpcommr @bbmp_official @DKShivakumar this is just off 80 ft road in Indirnagar and has been in this condition for months.. so infuriating

@gregisenberg the main question in this category is how sticky will Agents be? since they can shop around and have their own memory, how will tools retain their pricing power?

build startups for agents over the next 10 years, you'll have a market of billions of customers (agents) with millions of wallets that want to use your services go look at every saas tool you use. notion, slack, stripe etc now ask: "what's the version of this that's built purely for agents?" agent-native payments, agent-native communication, agent-native memory etc every single category gets rebuilt (for agents) we're entering the machine-to-machine economy and almost nobody is building for it yet.
