Apparently some dude is trying to build a replica of the twin towers in Chicago to house AI data centres and he's legitimately making progress towards it with the city planning board

This one's dedicated to all the systemd fanbois out there.
Lain on the Blockchain@CryptoCyberia
wow, systemd is adding an age variable for future digital ID laws. Linux users are not going to like this.

@AtavismDr @DrDeath1776 Could just be a late father. I'm in my mid forties and had a classmate whose dad was a Vietnam vet. Guy looked a bit older than the other dads, but not by much.
English

@DrDeath1776 That means these are recollections and Bluey is actually around 40 now.
English

@Elvish_Harper @SmithMotors123 @mauddweeb @IGN Yeah, I prefer how it is all implied and/or ruthlessly summarized. Then you read things "House Washington used their atomics" and the room for interpretation of everything is huge.
English

I also think it just doesn't fit with the implied history of the setting in the originals.
Maybe this is an insane opinion not backed up by the text, but when I read the original series I interpreted the Butlerian Jihad as a religious movement against computers, not a war against a robot army. And when the original series said men created thinking machines and then were ruled by them, I interpreted this as the setting's internal dogma against computers, not a robot army using humans as cattle for no particular benefit.

The Dune series is currently at an astounding 23 novels and counting; spanning 15,000 years. If you're wondering where to start, we're here to help. bit.ly/3NEHyPn

@SmithMotors123 @mauddweeb @IGN To be fair, the conclusion is satisfactory and Omnius and Erasmus are great characters.
English

@SmithMotors123 @mauddweeb @IGN If you read 5 and 6, you will want to read 7 and 8. And probably a summary of the Butlerian Jihad/Machine Crusade/Battle of Corrin trilogy to know who the new Big Bad is.
English

@SmithMotors123 @mauddweeb @IGN For the background that Frank would have interspersed in the main text, Brian and KJA wrote two prequel trilogies. Only the Butlerian Jihad one is fully required, but still, the payoff per word is very low compared to the originals.

English

@SmithMotors123 @mauddweeb @IGN Yep. 5 and 6 are weird and good, but there si no conclusion. There are two sequel ones (Hunters and Sandworms) that cover what the original 7 would have, but they are wordy.

@existentialli @mauddweeb @IGN Look, I read Dune (all of it) in the 90s. Just trying to save new readers the roller coaster of emotions of plowing through.
English

@SmithMotors123 @mauddweeb @IGN Because that's the one stopping point before you either end up with a cliffhanger or reading up eleven books for what Frank would have written in three.
English

@IGN No, no.
There are only 6 books.
Start with Dune.

@CameronCorduroy I had a $600,000 over 5 years NSF Physics grant terminated last year because our grant mentioned "polarization" which was included in the banned terms list. We were discussing the polarization of light. We never got the grant reinstated.

I ordered Five Guys on @Grubhub. The driver never moved. For over an hour. What followed was a 2-hour odyssey through 3 agents and a "supervisor" that ended with Grubhub hanging up on me for calling their process "stupid."
