I've gotten a lot of comments like this, so forgive me if this isn't very kind, but I'm at my limit. If you're a serious academic, you've spent a lot of time looking at citations, and you know they often contain errors. You know that it's very common for professors just to copy citations they found in other papers and put them into their own papers because they need a lot of citations to look credible. Given that this is going on, it's kind of silly to think that we should have a kind of death penalty for having an LLM, hallucination mistake What you're doing is virtue signaling and pretending that citations are somehow sacred to what academics do, when in fact they're mostly just poorly put up window dressing. You're being dishonest. Perhaps with yourself, perhaps with me.

Gabe Newell owns the majority share in Steam. Now, I know Newell somewhat. We've met. We've talked. He's not a close friend by any means. But it is by his will and genius that Steam is the way it is - a triumph of good guy capitalism. A great site for finding games, with cheap prices, frequent sales. Well ... I don't need to praise it here. You guys all know about it.
When Newell passes away, it's unclear what will happen with Steam. Doubtless his shares will go to his family. Will they continue his vision? Or will they sell out to one of the many circling sharks who have been trying to buy it for years? What will happen if the sharks DO get their teeth into Steam?
I believe that in that case Steam will go to hell in a handbasket. Owned by men in suits who don't give a sh*t about quality or the consumer. Probably it will become a subscription service or worse. If it gets sold to a horror show like Electronic Arts or Disney it'll be a nightmare.
The only mitigating feature is that a different service might arise, but it will need to fight the rotting lumbering corpse of Steam to establish itself. I am content that since I am several years older than Gabe, it is plausible that I won't live to see this terrible day. But you might.
Gabe Newell, to me, is literally barring the gates to Hell for us all.

@random_eddie Is it ok for to just walk and arrest someone? No words, no "you are under arrest"? Can they just surround an individual on the street and drag him to the station?

@random_eddie Are you saying that police can say "I am arresting you for X while actually arresting you for Y"? Why say that? Like I asked, what do the papers say? When were they filed? After someone told them refusing to provide ID is not an arrestable offense?

@random_eddie They are allowed to say whatever they want. I think the question is they are allowed to arrest him for not showing the ID. If he is being arrested for something else, then the video does not back that up and at least makes the arrest questionable. Would need to see the paperwork.

When it comes to billionaires my take is the opposite of Leftists:
Billionaires SHOULD consume all their wealth: megayachts, English castles, mountains of cocaine, own a dozen homes and 30 cars - do it! Spend it all!
The worst thing that can happen is for a billionaire to try to ‘do good in the world’ and shovel money to NGOs for some cause they get excited about. That’s the worst thing that can happen. Charitable donations should be taxed at 500%. A billionaire’s lavish lifestyle poses no threat to me but their misguided ‘good intent’ is absolutely cancerous and potentially civilization ending.

Shielding your kids from the world, small talk, commerce, pleasantries, etc, does them no favors.

One reason I suspect mental health issues are now so prevalent is because kids are not out in their neighbourhoods with other kids, unsupervised by adults. Climbing trees, playing football, making forts, getting in arguments/sorting them out, finding insects etc. Instead they are at home looking at screens because parents think that's "safer".
