Google right now has ~1 million (H100 equivalent) Ironwood v7 TPUs and 500K H100 GPUs online. With 400-600K NVIDIA Blackwell (GB200 NVL72 racks) GPUs incoming. So total compute capacity = 2 million H100 equivalents by end of year. They will spend $85 billion in 2025 (raised from $75 billion forecast) DeepMind CEO @demishassabis said yesterday: “We are scaling to the MAX our current capabilities. Casual convo: I asked him about brands building their own LLM for safety and uniqueness instead of using Google or OpenAI as a base, and he said it was impossible because of the scale needed. A workaround is to train the tone. Yikes.

@ns123abc Wild stats on Google's GPU haul, makes you wonder if local llms could keep up with that scale. Maybe smaller setups are the future for some tasks? What do you all think about balancing big infra with homegrown AI?

@garrytan You must be new here. Been happening for a couple of years now by strategic writers. At this point, the smart brands using LLMs are programming typos on purpose.

How long before people intentionally put in typos to make sure people believe an LLM didn’t write a thing?

we have greatly improved memory in chatgpt--it can now reference all your past conversations! this is a surprisingly great feature imo, and it points at something we are excited about: ai systems that get to know you over your life, and become extremely useful and personalized.
