Millions of Americans skip medications because they can't afford them. Did the Inflation Reduction Act help? In @JAMAInternalMed, we find the IRA's 2024 drug provisions ⬇️⬇️cost-related medication nonadherence—especially in those w/ multiple conditions jamanetwork.com/journals/jamai…

Jeremy is right (and knows more about responding to Ebola than most) There have been 12 Ebola/Marburg outbreaks in the past 4 years Because of USAID and our work with WHO All of them have been stamped out locally with zero cases in the US Elon's gutting of USAID and our withdrawal from WHO leaves the world -- and us -- vulnerable
Jeremy Konyndyk@JeremyKonyndyk

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at @USAID. This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC. What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

.@RoKhanna is right When I was @WhiteHouse46 I couldn't even accept a bottle of water from a lobbyist And when I left, was told I couldn't lobby the WH for 2 years Those were good policies made through Executive Order by President Biden We should codify them into law
unusual_whales@unusual_whales

BREAKING: Representative Ro Khanna has introduced the Drain the Swamp Act. It will ban White House officials from accepting gifts from lobbyists or becoming lobbyists during the Trump term.

This 3 minute video by @RepAuchincloss is exactly right and worth your time. Of course it’s easy to find some silly study or even the occasional bad science in nih grants But the solution to that is better peer review, not gutting the scientific enterprise
Rep. Jake Auchincloss 🟧@RepAuchincloss

Basic science is inspired by curiosity, accountable to evidence, and subject to peer review. Politics should have no role.

High-intensity statins lower LDL cholesterol in high-risk ASCVD patients, but combining moderate-intensity statins with ezetimibe offers similar benefits with a lower risk of new-onset diabetes and statin intolerance. ja.ma/4gHAk5w @CardioSSoon

Essential thread by @Farzad_MD - we should be thanking our lucky stars for existence of EIS and folks like Farzad, @JeffDean’s father, and so many others, the very best and bravest and most curious and most determined. Instead: shuttering it? Absolute madness.

1/ After residency at Mass General Hospital, I reported to Atlanta to meet my fellow CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Officers. I have never felt so intimidated by my peers The best and the brightest, they were star clinicians, had served in disaster zones; MD/PhDs and MSF.

PEPFAR is the epitome of soft power. It is a Republican initiative, it is pro-life, pro-America and the most popular U.S. program in Africa. There’s even a waiver acknowledging this, yet I’m told that drugs are still being withheld at clinics in Africa. This must be reversed immediately!!

What are “indirects costs” and why are they so high ? These are the institutional costs that allow the research to be conducted across all studies like: Utilities like heat, AC, water, electricity, phone & internet costs Facilities costs like rent, costs of the building and its upkeep, remodeling, painting, new carpet, desks, furniture, lab equipment, IT costs or cloud services Personnel costs like finance, legal, support staff, housekeeping, administrative costs, IT services, data security, security officers, front desk, quality assurance, compliance, and human resources Service contracts on stuff like xerox machines We are self-insured and faced a 27% increase in premiums this year, we put away money for our employees for their 401K plan, we reimburse for their tuition expenses, there are very very large cybersecurity expenses, there are liability costs, there are expenses related to ensuring privacy law compliance by outside entities It’s an expensive enterprise and differs from other businesses in the costs of equipment and IT cybersecurity costs

+1. Incredibly proud of the hard work that went into this comprehensive review on sudden cardiac arrest in athletes. Understanding these events in athletes has implications that echo far beyond the field and touches the health of all young adults.
