Mughal era was a period of economic stagnation and eventually decline. Mughal economy at its height was probably the world's largest, but represented a smaller share of global output than the predecessor Indian states. India's GDP Per Capita and QoL literally declined under Mughal rule. The scientific temper, mathematics and philosophy for which ancient India was once renowned had declined during the Mughal era.
