My nephew asked why I don't post politics on X. I said it's because: (a) I am a security nerd, I doubt anyone gives a monkey's what I think, and (b) doing so would alienate 50% of the people reading the post. I don't want that. The most polarizing comment I will make today is I looooovveeee pineapple on pizza! :) This should light things up!

@DPJHodges I feel the most concerning thing though is the fact for reform voters basically there was no movement. That is a sizable chunk of population who endorse his approach

I simply don't understand why Nigel Farage didn't just say "I now realise the rumours I spread were false. I shouldn't have done that. I apologise. I'll be more careful in the future". Instead he's kept trying to justify peddling misinformation, and made things worse for himself.
YouGov@YouGov

Nigel Farage has seen his favourability ratings take a knock over the last week, and now has a negative net favourability score among Leave voters for the first time (-4, compared to +7 on 30-31 Jul) His score has fallen particular among Tory voters (from -10 to -27) – among the wider public it has gone down from -35 to -42 yougov.co.uk/politics/artic…

Just under three hours to go. And I’m not saying I’m getting overexcited, but I’m damn glad there isn’t a flare to hand…

@botnethorror True, although also correct I think that Computer Weekly banged on about this for many years before even a hint of mainstream interest.

There are three sides to every story. Worth it for the brief postulation of why the Post Office IT scandal didn’t make it out of the computer press for a long time. spectator.co.uk/article/there-…

@dlknowles That is really interesting thank you. I had not considered answers have become the talking points. Which makes a lot of sense. I do feel there is less impact, and whether that is down to solely what you say above or my also old man rose tinted politics was better in the past 🤷‍♂️😀

@botnethorror But political journalism in general involves a vast amount of duplication of effort, perhaps more now even, and especially if you're not a daily newspaper reporter/broadcast, it is worth questioning what you will add that is different when you commit those resources

@dlknowles Do you think that applies as much in the modern era? I am not sure, but the unfortunate corollary is perhaps it doesn't matter if they are surprised or unable to give a cogent answer as it does not seem to have any impact.

this seems like the "children who grow up in houses with lots of books end up smart, so we should put books in people's houses!" mistake. People who play chess tend to be bright, so if we make people play chess, it'll make them bright! Or maybe chess appeals to bright people

vaguely approve of this on a vibes basis. Although the idea that chess "trains" the brain for anything other than being good at chess seems pretty unlikely to me. Still, chess is great, people should play chess
