Maniples could flex and bend around the generally more rigid organization of the phalanx.

@emperorthesteve English history is the battle between Bog dwelling Saxons (whom Yankees descend from) and Aristocratic Cavaliers whom Southerners descend from and purposefully imitated during the Civil war.

Eros unconsummated, passion for the body channeled towards the perfection of the soul. In the court of love a knight already twice born becomes born thrice as he and his lady reach out to the hand of God.

Turning back the clock to 1950 would do nothing because the underlying physical and metaphysical strata of reality was already so thoroughly materialized that nothing could even slow it down.

There's a certain sort of trad larper who sees a retvrn to the 1950s, or 1920s, or 1800s as the solution to the woes of today, not realizing that every problem he see today was already present then in its terminal stage.

Man, becoming a later Roman emperor was a great way to ensure your days were numbered and that you would be assassinated by your troops or family members or die of the plague. A great introduction, by the way:

@NondescriptRed Probably assume he is just a particularly powerful djinn and not an omnipotent being. I imagine they'd give similar advice about Zeus or Quetzalcōātl.

@caesarisattva @LIgfried One can prefer Ovid to Vergil (as one could prefer Milton to Shakespeare) but I don’t think anyone would seriously contend that Ovid is the more canonical poet of the Latin language. (Although he was often the more enjoyed poet)
