@Headteacherchat We used to stay after the nativity performance, the school would buy fish and chips and we’d have a quiz. Was great fun and people stayed as they’d already come back to help at the performance.

Anon post: We’ve just sent out the email for the staff Christmas party, but four of our fantastic TAs have already declined because they can’t afford the £39 cost per person. I really don’t want finances to be a barrier to them joining. Has anyone found good, low-cost or inclusive alternatives to ensure everyone can celebrate together?

@Headteacherchat I had this when I started my first headship about 10 years ago. I raised it at my first head teachers performance management and it was rectified. As a head it is only fair there is a decent gap as you have the overall responsibility for everything !

Anon post: I’ve just done a budget review and discovered that, as a newly appointed head, I’m on the same salary point as my Deputy Head. I always thought there had to be at least one point’s difference between the head and the rest of SLT, but I can’t find any guidance to back this up. Has anyone come across this before or have advice?

@SA1903_ Was the same in Inverness airport last week. I was like £4.19??? I don’t want it! Got some water in the one other shop for £1.20! The Pepsi at Luton airport in boots was £2.30 a few days before!

@Headteacherchat This brings back awful memories! I remember frantically trying to stick to the times. I was teaching reception too! Poor things!

@londonteacher_ I went there when it was called Westminster college, graduated in 1997! Been teaching ever since! Had no aspirations to go beyond a class teacher, but have been a head for the last 10 years! So many happy memories from my days at Westie!

Last day of uni in 2017 as a not yet NQT who really didn’t think she’d be successful vs Today in 2025 with 7 years of mainstream teaching under her belt, 3 years as creativity lead and now a SEN teacher 👩🏻‍🏫 ✨

@MrHtheteacher How did you make this happen? I've tried to do this but nowhere, including direct with WBD will give me the books?! All I've been able to do is spend weeks getting books with the tokens from shops myself.

Today, our kids didn't go home with book tokens scrunched up at the bottom of their book bags. Instead, they all went home with a book of their choice, paying with their tokens in school and taking their pick

@Emma_Turner75 Totally agree. I’ve worked with young children for more than 25 years and am currently a nursery headteacher. We have so many children saying no to us… but interestingly they soon learn that there are boundaries and most follow them quickly!

Had a fascinating conversation with a nursery teacher of almost 30 yrs. She was saying one of the biggest changes she’s seen in recent years is the number of children who say ‘no’ and simply refuse to follow any adult instruction. She said it used to be super rare but not now.

@EmmaDee77 I think it will work ok in the best quality settings, I am head of an outstanding nursery school and we could train some staff well, but I worry it’s just a cheap/quick way of getting people into childcare.

@poppygibsonuk My husband has a mug he only uses on a Sunday. It’s his favourite mug but he saves it for a Sunday treat! My daughter has a mug sort out and threw it away! Luckily we retrieved it from the bin!

@IdiotsPunisher @CollinRugg I don’t like to judge but also saw an interview with her on British tv this morning and thought she was very well put together and calm considering. Maybe she’s still in shock and not processing it. A very sad situation whatever the full story is.

Sorry if it sounds judging. I have children of my own and I know I will not able to go on with life if I ever leave my kids in a fire like that without fighting to save him. Ever. I would roll whatever but I’ll never leave him. She gave interview with complete makeup and hair done.

Former child star Rory Sykes, who was blind and had cerebral palsy, passed away in the LA fires, told his mom to leave him. Horrific. Sykes, 32, was unable to move because of his condition as the fire approached. His mother, who had a broken arm and couldn’t lift him, said she rushed to get help because all the phone lines were down and she was unable to call 911. When she returned, the house had burned down. “He said, ‘Mom, leave me.’ … I couldn't lift him. I couldn't move him. When the fire department brought me back, his cottage was burnt to the ground.”

@StephLunch @thismorning Thank you for sharing this. I had similar problems when I was about the same age. It is so embarrassing and then makes you stress it will happen again. Luckily at 50 I haven’t had heavy periods for a year or so.

A period drama. After posting on Insta about a nightmare period leak situation I had, I was inundated with messages from others who'd been through the same. So today I went on @thismorning to talk about it. Thanks to everyone who messaged me with their stories.

@RogersHistory As a head teacher and someone who’s worked in education for 25 years, it is so worrying. The system needs a complete overhaul. I am currently working nursery education which is a dream compared to primary.
