The SNP still can’t articulate what independence would mean in practical, day‑to‑day terms. The uncomfortable truth is that it would make Scotland immediately poorer, and none of the fundamentals have credible answers. 1. Currency: What would we actually use, and for how long? A country can’t run a modern economy on ambiguity. 2. Pensions: We already struggle to fund them, and the pressure is increasing as our population ages. Around 1.8 million people pay no tax, yet the bill keeps rising. 3. Public spending: With a current deficit of £26 billion, which services are being cut to close the gap? Health? Education? Local government? These are first‑order questions, not optional extras. Simply repeating “we need independence” isn’t a plan. People who pay attention can see straight through the rhetoric.
