Two of Canada’s biggest problems are (1) lack of innovation and (2) people trying to hurt Jews. Israel may be imperfect, but it’s a world leader at dealing with both. Canada could use more partnerships with Israel. UBC should reject the boycott. jaabc.ca/ubc-senate-rej…

@lucyhargreaves4 3. Labour market and volunteer opportunities for retirees. Lots of people now are ready to retire when still very able to contribute. A lot of facets to this one, no easy fix.

We’re going to be publishing a series of Build Canada memos on ways to improve intergenerational equity. What ideas should we include?

@markroseman Building costs in BC are high, but it seems particularly pronounced for public sector projects. $1.8 million per LTC bed?

The BC NDP just built a kick-ass clinic space… … spending the equivalent of 32,000 visits with a family doctor to do so. A clinic that will likely be understaffed, and take 10 years to deliver that many patient visits… most of them with nurses, not doctors. And it will cost $6M more each year to run it (equivalent of 100k visits, while delivering less than half that). Meanwhile, we don't have money to pay NP's, and family docs are doing episodic telehealth, dermatology, and anything but the work we need, because they can't afford to operate their practices. That's health care math in BC. 🤷‍♂️
Mark Roseman@markroseman

With a capital cost of $17.6 million, this is a pretty shiny new clinic. (That's before operating costs.) That $17.6M would pay for 320,000 visits at an independent FP clinic, or what this UPCC would provide over 5y at max capacity—likely 10y! Better health or better PR? 🤬

@BriannaWu I think there's a lot of receptiveness to your policy positions among Canadian conservatives. I enjoy learning from your takes. Keeping being you!

I hate Transgender day of Visibility. Deciding to publicly come out as trans is the biggest mistake I ever made in my entire career. I believe we will lose all rights on this course and thought I could help move us to the center. But there’s no constituency for moderate public policy. I wish I’d just kept my mouth shut, enjoyed my life and my marriage and let all the nutcases leading our movement own their failure. Being trans literally does not affect my life because I did the work to integrate. That’s what every single sister should be focused on instead of this “Trans day of visibility” bullshit. Actual trans women want to make it to the other side.

@ryancbriggs It's 40% on CV. There are some automatic fail criteria (e.g. budget too inflated). SSHRC program officers invite faculty from a mix of schools and fields. You can look up past committees online.

Just found out that the Insight Grant for this project wasn't funded. That's life, but I'm surprised it scored so low that it apparently was never discussed so I won't get feedback. One does worry that this was due to anti-LLM brain poison, but maybe I just wrote a bad application (For SSHRC I was 3/3 before this)

I have a new paper. We look at ~all stats articles in political science post-2010 & show that 94% have abstracts that claim to reject a null. Only 2% present only null results. This is hard to explain unless the research process has a filter that only lets rejections through.

Convincing rebuttal to those who think the extremely slow growth of Canada's GDP per capita is a mirage. It's simply undeniable that our economy has failed to live up to its potential. thehub.ca/2026/03/20/why…

Jewish children in British Columbia should be able to go to BC public school without worrying that international politics will follow them into the classroom. This is just plain wrong.

I assume similar spending is happening in education. Lots of administrators and none of it is supporting classrooms. #Bcpoli #bced
Mark Roseman@markroseman

@SecondStreetOrg Spending on health authority head offices (bureaucrats etc., not even admin in program spending) skyrocketed from $1.4B to $3.8B in the time the BC NDP has been in power. With zero oversight or clear benefit. That money would pay for 6000 family doctors, including overhead.

@jessieksunner @KorkyNeufeld Student societies waste student money and fund polarizing political projects while complaining that tuition is too high. Membership should be optional with fees only for students who opt in.

Student union politics are the butt of jokes for a reason. It's not funny anymore. Amend the University Act to end universities' mandated ties to otherwise independent student societies (see 27.2.m(v), 27.2.n, etc). @jessieksunner @KorkyNeufeld

A 6:24 pm announcement on a Friday. Allegations of corruption in the Kwantlen Student Association under investigation. This is tip of the iceberg. Stanley Tromp has a thick file on student politician malfeasance across the college/university sector. #bced #bcpoli #cdnfoi

Today is a painful day for Iranian-Canadians upon learning about the murder of long-time opponent of the Islamic Republic regime and mathematician, @MasoodMasjoody. The day before his trial was scheduled to begin, where he was expected to expose what he had learned about connections to the IRGC, he suspiciously disappeared. Homicide investigators later discovered his body in Mission, British Columbia, on March 6. Two individuals, Arezou Soltani of North Vancouver and Mehdi Ahmadzadeh Razavi of Maple Ridge have been arrested and charged in connection with his murder. Masjoody had previously reported to police that he believed his life was in danger from these two suspects. Investigators should continue their work to determine who else may be linked and a danger to Canadians. According to newspaper The Province, "In a letter to then prime minister Justin Trudeau in 2021, Masjoody said he had flagged Iranian regime programs that were involved in sensitive engineering and technology fields and warned that technologies developed in Canada could be brought back to Iran for nefarious purposes." He also identified students at SFU who could be connected to the regime's IRGC. theprovince.com/news/two-men-c… This case should not close. Investigators should continue to examine his alleged findings. As an Iranian Canadian activist, I can say that many of us have never felt safe, and this tragedy only deepens those fears. For years, we have been warning Canadian officials to wake up to the export of the regime's Islamist extremist ideology here in Canada, as well as concerns about funding networks, safe haven for regime officials in Canada, billions of dollars in money laundering, and the possibility of sleeper cells. To @MarkJCarney @csiscanada @rcmpgrcpolice @Safety_Canada @gary_srp , please take our concerns seriously.

@Bzubyk Sadly, I think many of us have a good sense of some policy directions that would work. And I don't see the appetite in our BC or federal governments to make it happen.

Canada is among the western countries most infected with antisemitism. Multiple synagogues shot up. Jewish schools shot up. Huge hate rallies at the least tolerated by our political elite. Jewish Canadians experience this daily. The next time a politician tells you "this is not who we are" it should be interpreted as moral cowardice. It is who we are becoming and the real question for our political leaders is "what are you going to do about it".

Ending the repressive dictatorship in Tehran and halting its nuclear ambitions once and for all would be a monumental step towards regional stability. It also offers hope of a better life for the long-suffering people of Iran who have waited two generations for this moment. Let us hope they may soon embark upon a new chapter in the history of their country, one defined by freedom, justice and peace. The world owes a great debt to all those who put themselves into harm’s way for global peace and security.

BC needs to get its spending under control, but further tax hikes are probably inevitable due to the carbon tax being canceled (without undoing some of the tax cuts that it had funded) and population aging pushing up health care costs. I would do the following.
