@ZitoSalena Today was my first Palm Sunda in a very long time. I actually took a palm and folded it into a cross, though not nearly as beautiful as the Artist's.

@Trixies357 It is very true that there is a deep current of antisemitism in the US. One that I had thought extinguished, or at least pushed so far to the fringes that it didn't matter. But it is still there, and my theory is that the Internet and Social Media have allowed it to fester.

@ZitoSalena @ScottPaterno But wait, how can anyone funding or backing these protests be anything other than perfect? Does it matter if they get their funding or orders from Beijing, or Qom, or anyplace?

Three things are happening here 1.) visually there are a significant number of people. 2.) There are no new voters here. None. 3.) nobody cares to do their due diligence when attending things on who is funding or backing the protests because "feelings" (a few of us have) (I guarantee you there would be a 20 point "gotchas" on all the bad people behind a conservative protest if the roles were reversed)

There were significant pro-palestine anti-Israel sentiments present. Never thought I'd see ANY party chair side with Iran/Hamas just to score meaningless political points with his base. I thought Eugene was smarter than that. Was anyone swayed by this in either direction?

20,000 in downtown Pittsburgh standing up against the chaos, abuses and higher prices of the Trump Administration. It was an honor to make the case that we need to look out for every days folks here in the US.

@SandyofCthulhu Only game I ever ditched work to play. My wife and I were playing and kept saying one more turn, one more advancement, etc., until my alarm went off for me to get up for work. So I called in sick and we played all day until we fell asleep.

I was there. I helped! A generous estimate of my contribution would be maybe 1% tops. Bruce Shelley & Sid Meier and the rest of team did fantastic. We knew it was going to be a giant hit when our brutalized, overworked, and strung-out playtest team voluntarily stayed later than required just to play Civilization.

My strongest blackpill belief is that UBI will lead to an overwhelming amount of mental illness most people if they are honest w themselves need external boundaries and challenges imposed on them You're asking everyone on the planet to self-govern their whole lives when most cant even go to bed on time now when they have work early

I am not sure that the characters were terribly made…they were just terrible characters that the writers thought everyone would love because they were “woke”. I use that as shorthand, but what they were really just terrible characters that were supposed to break the entire concept of Star Trek. In a way, it makes some sense. After all the Federation has been either gone, or at least greatly weakened leading to most of the galaxy falling into barbarism that sees the Federation as the old and failed way. Now, if most of us were telling this story, and the Federation was attempting to reignite their former greatness by opening up the Academy to take the best and brightest and train up the next generation of leaders. We would bring in some flawed characters for certain. Perhaps the cadet from some planet (say Vulcan or Kronos) that was raised to hate the Federation because of how they failed to stop the Burn and allowed the galaxy to crumble. They hate the Federation, and they were sent, perhaps, to undermine the Academy to ensure that it is strong and able to deal with the massive issues they will face. I could see some other characters that were the absolute best of their world who are idealists who want to be the next Picard or Archer. They are chauvinists for the Federation and feel it in their souls that rebuilding it will be a force for good in the Galaxy. They add conflict and drama because their idealism can be pig headed and they can make stupid decisions that denigrate the other cadets and they have to be taught leadership, tolerance, and integrating multiple skills, POVs, etc. Then, the majority of the students could be average or even below average examples who were sent by their worlds to be seen as participating, but worried that this will fail and don’t want to invest heavily. They are hedging their bets. Some of those would be good, some even exemplary, but some might be below average neppo appointments. What did we get? A bunch of characters that maybe make sense to some Gen Z or Millennials as being more in tough with themselves than with the organization they are sent to join. Even that could be a decent story if it was apparent that the faculty was showing the cadets why Starfleet is important and why their military discipline and structure make sense and make them better than a collection of individuals. But, from what I saw in the first episode, that wasn’t what they were going for. The faculty seemed to be as dysfunctional as the cadets, and I am not sure that I would actually want that version of Starfleet to dominate the galaxy.

This really is a key issue that modern SFA zealots refuse to look at. With all the strikes against it TOS built an audience anyway. How did it do this? With good characters and good scripts by competent writers. Norman Spinrad, D.C. Fontana, Harlan Ellison, etc. But SFA inherited immense Fandom and wasted it completely with poor scripts focused on terribly made characters.
Stephen Green@VodkaPundit

TOS had cheap sets, low-rent special effects, largely unknown actors, and zero existing IP. So the show had to do this weird thing where it focused on character and storytelling.

It’s always been the instinct of these types. The DC class plays jujitsu with any movement that threatens their comfort. The problem for them is the electorate has changed, and they are living in a fantasy world. If they succeed it will ultimately go far worse for them (and the nation) than they can now imagine.

It's becoming increasingly clear that a lot of Republicans are content with Democrats coming back to power in the midterms because they think turning President Trump into a lame duck will allow them to purge his influence from the party.

I maintain that if we retired every O-6 (promotable) and above, that we would still be a more effective fighting force than what we are currently. This takes into account the loss of some good flag officers, but is offset by getting the rot out.
InfantryDort@infantrydort

This will be the last thing I post today because I have better things to do. What confuses me about these generals is their visceral reaction to what most of human history would consider classic strength of purpose. Brute force if you will. Should every leader be like that? Of course not. But what's telling about these generals is their complete and utter revulsion at any other leadership style than their own. They are intolerant. And most know they're intolerant. The ones that look past it are those who've conformed to their way of thinking. What befuddles me is their absolute denial of the fact that millions of people respond well to the type of leadership they revile in Hegseth. They can't explain it because it doesn't fit nicely in their "MOPS/MOES" worldview. It is intangible. I'm just tired of these weak takes. I'm tired of these generals who go out of their way to appear "measured". They are the living embodiment of the 'proportional response'. They are self styled masters of limited war. That's why they scoff at terms like "unconditional surrender". Because they have never and will never be equipped to prosecute the type of war necessary to achieve it. No. They just refer to those of us furious after GWOT, growing up in the shadow of their inadequacy, as "potential war criminals" because we finally get to shoot back. Look, I'm not trying to be as mean as these bitter generals. I'm not. But I'm just so sick and tired of being lectured at about what war means from people who couldn't be bothered to win one. They couldn't win then. They can't win now. And they will try to take down anyone they can at some final shot at relevance. Because maybe if they can get that one last verbal jab in, they'll finally get that little victory that eluded them on the field of battle. This cohort of officer must be removed from the service almost entirely. Notice I said "almost". Because even I see the value in the occasional corporate GOFO. But if this department is to change for the long term, it must shed most of this archetype going forward. They should be the exception, not the rule. I will not be convinced otherwise.

@KeelanJ15 @DavidJohnButler And I appreciate you for it! And yes, OneDrive is to modern mankind like the wheel was to ancient mankind. Those who choose not to use and love it are like farriers who are still saying that we never should have adopted cars.
