Children suffering distress require our care, compassion and the best quality healthcare. I spoke this week in Parliament about the puberty blockers trial and shared my concerns. You can read my contributions here 👉 tinyurl.com/mtj3426k and here 👉 tinyurl.com/2p2fk3a5

We just forced a vote in Parliament to stop the Puberty Blocker trial. The Government voted it down. These children are perfectly healthy. They need our care and support - not to be experimented on with life-changing drugs. Expertly argued by my colleague @drcarolinej

Sunday Express Better Bones campaign week 96: With no sign of Ministers implementing the Fracture Liaison Services policy, and with 2,000 lives at stake each year, we're pleased to work with @drcarolinej to amend the Health Bill to ensure delivery. We'll be giving this amendment everything we've got. We hope @jamesmurray_ldn and @SharonHodgsonMP will support what is simply asking Ministers to implement their own life-saving policy #publishtheplan

Why does this Labour government think children aged 14 years are too young for social media… but at the same time, old enough to participate in a puberty blockers trial for gender incongruence?

While everyone was concentrating on the drama and chaos in Number 10, news quietly slipped out that the puberty blockers trial will go ahead. Clinical trials in children and babies can be very helpful in improving treatments when they’re done properly. This one will provide hundreds of children with powerful drugs that may cause them irreversible harm. Despite many of them having symptoms of distress which are likely to be temporary.

Serious questions remain about the long-term effects of puberty blockers on children’s health and development. Children as young as 11 should not be enrolled in the PATHWAYS trial. Sign the petition calling on the Government to stop it 👇
Claire Coutinho@ClaireCoutinho

The Government have quietly announced that they will push ahead with their Puberty Blocker Trial. Children as young as 11 will be given drugs that can lead to loss of fertility and bone density. No child can consent to this. The trial must be stopped.

Trying to stop Labour doing nutty things latest... This week ANOTHER big pharma company is warning it will stop providing free medicine to sick people in clinical trials if the government taxes them for it. "Hundreds of patients a year will miss out on potentially life saving medicines". The Shadow Science and Health teams will keep pushing for a rethink. It's bad for patients. It's bad for our rep as a brilliant place for life sciences. thetimes.com/business/compa…

A huge welcome to @StephenMorganMP as the new Food Security Minister — who after a quick search of hansard has mentioned “Farming” ZERO times in Parliament since being elected in 2017. Great to have another outspoken voice for farmers in DEFRA 💪 It’s now absolutely clear. Labour are truly dedicated to our farmers.

Labour are applying VAT to life-saving, FREE drugs for terminally ill children and adults. Compassionate medicines offer hope and are provided for free by companies to patients for whom all conventional treatment options have been exhausted. Labour must act quickly to reverse this decision.

New Health Secretary, James Murray, was a Treasury Minister when VAT bills started being issued on medicines given for free in clinical trials. So he’s now perfectly placed to put a stop to this craziness, which is seeing critical, innovative treatments pulled from sick adults and children. Well done to @drcarolinej for keeping the heat on Labour Ministers on the Cancer Drugs Tax with her Urgent Question today. As she says, ‘When hearing that “every meeting” with Labour MPs was about “who can we tax in order to pay benefits to others?” few would have imagined that that would include potentially lifesaving, charitably given drugs for sick adults and dying children.” We’ve been warning Ministers about this since October. After getting a pause, the issue is still not resolved, putting charities, patients and life sciences firms in limbo. If Labour is serious about putting patients first, they should Scrap the Cancer Drugs Tax.

Pure ideological tosh from Labour. Education is a public good and should never be taxed. Labour imposed a punitive tax, there was no subsidy or discount. By imposing a tax they squeezed and punished families, forcing schools into closure and imposing a greater burden on the state system. We are seeing this all over the country. Even worse, Labour said they would deliver more teachers with this money but they have failed to do so. You improve the education system by bringing standards up as the Conservatives did, not by punishing children and parents. Labour’s approach has hurt everyone.

NHS staff should be able to focus on caring for patients, not navigating identity politics. Single-sex spaces, dignity and safeguarding matter. @KemiBadenoch is right. Public services need common sense, equal treatment and one clear standard for everyone.
Conservatives@Conservatives

The Public Sector Equality Duty has allowed identity politics, DEI bureaucracy and ideological box-ticking to take over our public services. Enough is enough. It's time to scrap it.

I have spent my political career fighting against identity politics when it came from Labour, Lib Dems, or the SNP, and I will do exactly the same against identity politics when it comes from Reform UK. The answer to Black Lives Matter is not a White Lives Matter born of the same racial grievance. To fix this the Conservatives will stand up for the silent majority who want order, fairness, common sense, and one law for everyone.

Wes Streeting promised universal fracture liaison services would be one of his 'first acts' in Government - but progress has been very slow, with around half of NHS Trusts still without a service. Let's see if James Murray, the new Health Secretary, will speed things up.

A pleasure to visit the fracture liaison service at St Mary's Hospital with the @RoyalOsteoSoc last week 🏥 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men over 50 will break a bone because of osteoporosis. Fracture liaison services proactively identify and treat those at risk.

Sunday Express Better Bones campaign week 95: Thanks to @drcarolinej for visiting one of the best Fracture Liaison Services in the country, at St Mary's Hospital. And for highlighting the human and financial cost of Government delay on rollout. @SharonHodgsonMP and @jamesmurray_ldn would be very welcome to see the service too. @DHSCgovuk
